I had the shifter levers of my 1960 fordson dexta and slipped causing wrench to fall inside. Is there an easy way to fish it out without taking it apart?

Magnet or Spring loaded grabber tool. Take your time so you do not push it further into the transmission.

I usually use the magnet but the figers tool is good if you can see it. When I worked for a dealership I found that some people must not worry about it, have found wrenches and screwdrivers in transmissions as well as bolts and pieces of metal from prior repairs.

The link shows one of the items I ALWAYS have in my pocket when in the shop. This and a stylus penlite each get used equally.

The collar is nice to keep it from sticking to the side of gearcases etc also.

Is there a reservoir at the bottom of the dexta transmission. Can't seem to find lost wrench. Possibly at bottom of tranny?

A magnet usually doesn't work for me because the item is sitting on cast. Since you can't see the wrench you might buy or borrow an inspection camera to find it. If it's in the reservoir you will at least need to drain the oil out. You may have to nudge it over to a spot where you can reach it with a grabber tool.

When I change oil into a bucket, I let the drain plug go ahead and fall right in, then when all the oil is drained out I just stick a magnet alongside the bucket, move it around until it grabs the plug, then work it up the side of the bucket. You might try a big BIG 45-degree welding magnet, try to grab the wrench, and work it up somehow.

Is it more than a matter of removing a cover? An hour opening it up might be time better spent than trying to fish it out.

I once dropped a wrench inside my combine I couldn't reach. I tried all the things pictured below and had no luck. I taped two
cow magnets to a long stick and that worked for me.
