crown in driveway

25 years ago I built a set of deflectors for the tail gate on my dump truck.it would spread about 9' wide, set your chains for about 2'' of stone. the deflectors would put 2'' of stone in center of road and 1'' at the sides giving you a 1'' slope on each side of center for a nice crown .....anybody else do this?

I created a similar crown using my H with a loader and blade. Took several passes to get it where I liked it, but it works.

every time i grade my driveway I have the rear blade at an angle to pull material to the center of my driveway and the blade higher at the center than the edge

Never knew anyone to do it while spreading, but in hill country grading a road so it has a crown is standard practice to reduce washing.

That sounds interesting - do you have a picture of the deflectors?

Old timers around here used to set a 55 gallon barrel against the tailgate in the center. It would dribble out in two strips and go about a third farther. Remember when the farm lanes were two strips of gravel with grass growing down the middle?
