IH 300 Uility serial numbers

Engine serial number is used for engine parts. Stamped in on a small machined flat just above the metal cover on right side of engine in the area below the # 2 or 3 spark plug. Think about all aftermarket piston and sleeve sets sold now fit all 300 and 350 engines. Two different connecting rods with a different piston pin hole size were used on a 300. If you engine serial number is before the change to small pin rods you will need to get the adapter piston pin bushings and install in your rods to use most pistons sold now. IH also sold replacement piston and sleeve sets with small pin size.

Thank you D-slater the info was every help
Do you have any input on which position kit to get ?
Yesterday seems to have a good kit

The numbers should be stamped into the plate (I was reminded it is on the right side) Unless it is beaten to shreds they should be
readable.
All 300U tractors take the same overhaul kits. This site has kits that are as good as any and are reasonable in cost. Recommended.

For this site just a piston and sleeve set # PK167. If the utility c-169 engine # is below 48045 you would also need connecting rod bushing package 366883R92 unless they are already in the rods and in good shape. Better deal may be the BEKH 1167 LCB that has the bushing adapters and gasket set included. If above the engine serial number # BEKH 1167A LCB with bushings for a .875 small pin rod.
If sure about size bearings needed or valve parts other number kits can be looked at.
Whatever you decide on a kit. If engine number is below 48045 you need adapter pin bushings. Could already be in the engine at a previous overhaul. If in specs on wear they can be used. Serial number 48045 and above doesn't need the adapter bushing, just a regular piston pin bushing for a .875 piston pin.
