Hi I'm new here bare with me
I picked up a ih300 Utility a few weeks back it has a front loader and backhoe
I pulled it out of some guys yard he said its been sitting for 7 years I think more like 17
I pull the head the piston ring where in bad shape long story short I wanna rebuild it but the tractor will not go in gear
its been in neutral since I got it .
I did pull the shift plate off the rows had a lot of rust on them I clean them up still wont go in to any gear does anyone know any tricks ?
Btw this tractor doesn't have the T/A on it

The description you give implys that the shifter will not move the gears into mesh. If you had the top off, and freed up the rails
and actually hav them moving, the gears must be stuck to the main shaft. (assumes you got the shifter forks on correctly.) If you
want to make sure it is worth fixing, I suggest you take the lid off again and photo the internals with a good closeup. then try
moving the gears on their shafts. If stuck, look for rust and stiff glue like residue on the shaft. The lower (countershaft gears
are fixed in place and only the top shaft gears move. Jim

The lower Countershaft could be stuck, but the top output shaft must be rotating because he pulled it away from its parking place. The movable gears are all on that shaft. Jim

with the rear jack up the tractor spins freely no grinding
soo when I pull the shift back off should I be able to move those rows if there call that sry with just a screw driver back and forth
or do the springs have to be compress ?

Yes the rails should move. I have seen the detent ball(the shiftier plate holds them down, with a spring on each one) rust up and the rails wont move. Lots of panther juice and patience. We bought a 300 one time with a locked up motor for next to nothing, the only thing wrong was the shifter rails had rusted up.

ill keep spraying them and hope for the best I guess
I was jw if anyone ran into this before and how the shift works because I can see much with just the shifter plate off
