The radio reported at 4:30 that Sears is selling their Diehard line and real-estate holdings. Guess they will be paying the top clowns big bonus bucks.

It does not sound good. I was in an area Sears at the beginning of this week as well as early December. The store looked fairly depleted this past week given it has had time to restock since New Year's Day.

Your guess that the top cats will get big bonuses is very likely correct, unfortunately. There have been too may cases of so-called executives cleaning-house at the expense of so many. i.e. too much money to few people at the expense of many. I will stop now.

I am a contracter, had a very good one with sears, infact too good,i seen in the early 90s the writing on the wall then,my cont was for 21 yrs

I commented that they were going to end and the top brass was milking the outfit dry a few months ago. Got poo-pooed.

I thought the exact same thing about our local store. It was a little before black Friday. I made a comment to the one clerk. He said something about they were just getting organized to stock up for the holidays. But something didn't seem right to me.

I always went in for Craftsman tools, but I haven't looked at them the same way since I picked up a ratchet to replace my busted one, and it had "China" stamped in it. I can buy Chinese crap anywhere.

Well, once they sell off their money making assets, they may have a bit of cash to work with, but when it runs out and they realize that they sold off their revenue generating assets, there will not be much left but to file for chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy and liquidate the rest of their holdings.

Bob, I would have agreed with you thrn, and do now.

They have Kenmore left to sell off? And that isn't worth much compared to craftsman and Diehard.

The local very small tools and appliance Sears seems to be chugging along.

The big mall anchor Sears in the regional town nearby will be closing in April.

Selling off the assets, shutting down the stores a few dozen a year - skimming off what the top brass can get away with. Not that they could keep the money in and keep going; but still, pretty lousy way to go out.

Didn't Montgomery wards go about the same way years ago?

Just heard Gander Mountain is filing bankruptsy.

Another store that is in the regional center town a half hour from me.

Going to be a ghost town!

Paul

I took something back to Sears and they wouldn't give my money back, only gift certificate. That was 10 years ago. Haven't been back since.
