I'm trying to get the key lock out of the steering column on a Stieger. Got it all torn down to the switch and can't see what is holding the lock in. I need a key for the lock since the key was lost before we got it. The local dealer is pretty much useless for any help. The old original dealer is not the dealer since the whole Tenneco/Fiat conglomeration take over deal.

It's an Oldsmobile "tilt and telescope" column, and the lock cylinder is held in place by a Phillips head or Torx screw that is accessible after you remove the steering wheel, steering lock plate, and the turn signal switch.

Parts catalogs can be viewed at the CIH parts website, but I'm not gonna guess as to what model you have, and you are keeping that info to yourself, apparently!

Screw is circled in red, column shown is SIMILAR to yours, but not a "telescope column, so the steering wheel shaft is different.

Based on what Bob says, it sounds like you need a "<a href="http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/PFM0/W80649/N0716.oap?ck=Search_N0716_-1_702&pt=N0716&ppt=C0374">lock plate removal tool</a>", available at just about any auto parts store.

I'm sorry about model info. It is a cougar st270 This doe not have the screw you show in the red circle. I have all the guts stripped out of it. Only thing I can see is maybe a push latch that might hold that in. I can not get it to release if that is the case.

They sell slide hammers at harbor Freight. That what they used up in Quebec to get into and start our truck.

Oldsmobile??--I had a ST-250 and they always told me it was a Corvette steering column, I got robbed again!---Tee

caterpillar guy:

Most column switches work the same, carefully inspect the mounting boss for the key-barrel. You're looking for a very small hole, usually located on the side or bottom of the boss; when you find it, open up a Paperclip and insert it into the hole. When you feel the paperclip hit bottom, gently push it in a little bit further so that you push in the spring-loaded pin in there. With the spring-loaded pin depressed, put the flat blade of a small screwdriver into the key slot and turn the key-barrel counterclockwise until it stops. Now gently pull out the key-barrel. Now, take the key-barrel to your local Lock Smith and have them make a new set of keys for that key-barrel (expensive) OR (cheaper) just buy a NEW key-barrel with keys.

Yours may be old enough to have the older-style column with a locking tab in the cylinder that needs to be depressed to release it... does it have the rectangular hole as shown in the photo?

If NOT, I'd guess the cylinder is stuck in place with dried grease and dirt.

Bob It looks more like the one with the slot there I tried to push a small screwdriver in there to pull it out. I couldn't get it to come out yet. When I tried the other day. Will try again and will get some oil or lubricant of some kind in there to see if that helps.
Thanks to all. Will report back when I get it out.

If it is the older style with the slot and the tab that needs to be depressed, sometimes the bottom of the slot is closed with "casting flash" from when it was made, and that has to be chipped away to get at the release tab below it.
