i'm thinking of restoring my 986,was wondering how hard is it to remove the cab,it doesnt look that bad to me .also if the tractor is still useable without the cab on it if i had to use it.

Not too bad to take off,but when you do there's no using it,the
cab will take all of the controls with it, steering, brakes and
such

The brakes and shift levers , hydraulic levers etc all stay with the tractor. Problem is that steering column with all the gauges , steering wheel etc is supported by the cab so you would need to a support like the tractors without the cab have if you were going to use it that way.. I have had a few cabs off and drive them away from the hanging cab. You put a suitable support right through the open doors and hoist the cab off. Another thing is that the whole dash is exposed to the elements and they get pretty messed up if out in the rain etc.

A true "restoration" will cost WAY more than you will ever get back, and put the tractor out of service for a while. You SURE that's what you want, then GO for it!

The canopy or open station version of the 886 has the cab without glass or doors or anything. It's kind of strange looking, really. I think I'd avoid
that. It appears easy but I bet it's a headache. Clean her up, fix what's wrong, and shoot it with paint. You will be afraid to use it if you make it
too nice - take my word for it.
