Is the hesston 560 baler any good ? Do they have the capacity a 535 John Deere does ? Any known major problems?
Thanks Shaun

(quoted from post at 15:22:32 02/06/17) Thanks I just watched this the other day are you running the
baler at capacity?

No, with our bales, and people that we do baling for like the 5x5 bales around the 800 lb range. Most of the people we bale for only plant 10 to 20 acres, and don't have lots of cattle. I learned how to round bale with that baler, and its pretty easy to learn on. It's also been a pretty reliable baler for us so we are happy with it.

Just for interest sake, how much land (on average) does it take to make that bale ? I know it varies, just wondering.

With all the rain that hay in the video got on it we so we came out with something like 22 bales on 12 acres. Normally we can get 28 to 31 bales on that 12 acres which has had something planted on it for the last 80 years.

We could make 1400- 1600lb bales with no troubles. Self contained hydraulic system. But the tie cycle is a bit long. (Around a minute per bale). Since we now got a NewHolland br7090. The 560 Heston has not been needed. Less trouble with the newholland and it makes a tighter bale compared to the Heston.

We can turn ours up to make a 1400 - 1600 lb bale, but the people we bale for don't need, or want that heavy of a bale. It was one the first full automatic round balers, the 7090 has the advantage of at least 20 years of prior development. If you can find a 560 with the dual twine arms that really helps with the wrapping time.

That baler will not bale any where close to what a JD 535 will. There is a reason that those Hesston balers are cheap. They are not a very good baler. If your going to just bale a few acres for yourself you can get by with them I sure would not try doing any custom baling with one. Get a JD or NH baler for a better baler.

Thanks for the info : I am only looking to do some hay for myself maybe a little custom work not more 40 or 5O acres a year total . Kind of disappointed it won't bale With the John Deere . I hate the twine arm design of the new Holland I ran one last fall and it works pretty good if you could keep threaded

The 535 is good at is the wrapping time since they came with dual twine arms, dual twine arms was a option on a 560. We got the 560 used because it was ready to use, and the 535's were well out of our price range at the time. If you can find a 535 in good shape that you can afford go for it. For 40 to 50 acers the 560 will still do a good job for you (you seen how good the bales came out of our 560) so I don't see how JD seller can say "they are not very good balers", or maybe I can. Case International also sold the same baler as the 560, but it had a Case 8456 model number.
