R.F. Engine in Morrice, Michigan

They always had good parts for a decent price and good sales people. I'm a little miffed at them now, but I probably won't boycott them. I needed a set of piston rings for a 9700, and provided them with all the necessary serial numbers ,etc. Reliance, in this one instance, used Ford P/Ns on their product, and I was able to determine that they sent me rings for a 8700. I photocopied a couple pages out of my parts book and carefully highlighted all the differences between 8700 and 9700 part numbers, and sent a copy of their invoice to show that they did indeed have the correct information. The proper rings were about $100 more, and I was ok with that. What ticks me off is I got charged for shipping on the correct rings, and I had to pay to ship the wrong ones back. Not that big a deal, really, about $50 all together. They refused me any consideration on the shipping charges, citing that I had aftermarket pistons in the tractor. Two of the photocopies I sent him were pages showing the correct P/Ns for the pistons for that engine for that tractor. After awhile , I cooled off and dropped it, because I DO like like the parts and the prices. But if you ever want to order a sleeve and piston set form this company, make sure you find out who pays to ship all this iron around if there's a mistake.

Paying shipping both ways on the wrong parts, if indeed
their fault, would certainly get them boycotted in my book.
I don't care if it were only $5 as opposed to $50.
That's three times total you paid the shipping.
If it was their error, they should make it right.

I agree they should have handled the shipping on wrong parts. I used them on my CASE 931 rebuild. I liked that all the components were good name brand parts not the cheap stuff. Clevite bearing Perfect circle rings etc.

That's a bummer. I've never had to pay return shipping on an item that was sent to me as a mistake. Heck I even had a company send me an extra part once worth less than $10 and they paid to have it returned to them.

I paid the return twice on things. I ordered something from Owosso Tractor,it got back ordered,so they ordered it for me somewhere else. They forgot to cancel the one that was back ordered and a few weeks later, that one came too. I called Bob,he asked if I could send it back? I did,at my expense.
Another time I ordered a hydraulic pump from somewhere else. I should have called them on something that expensive, but I ordered it online instead. The description was to vague for me to know it wouldn't work on my tractor. If I had called he could have told me that. I ended up sending that one back at my expense too,and it was heavy so the shipping was over $50. Live and learn.

We bought a complete Perkins engine from them. It had an underneath exhaust manifold on it. I told them I needed a vertical one. They said "no problem " and ordered the right one. Charged me for it, and they couldn't recall telling me I wouldn't have to pay for it. You'd think after spending almost 4k on an engine they'd spring for a $60 manifold, especially after they said they would. Kinda have mixed feelings also.
