Situation: Working on uncles tractor. I understand firing order is 1-2-4-3 Question: #1 closest to fan. Should wire as marked of distributor marked 1-2-3-4 goes as 1-2-3-4 on plugs from front to back OR are 3 and 4 switched? The tractor was running before he burned up points which I'm replacing now. Thanks, Ricky

Maybe I'm missing something, but if you are only replacing points, firing order shouldn't matter. Just pull the cap and put it back on.

google *N firing order. Plenty of pics. The cap should not be marked in sequence 1234. going around, from 1 it should be 1243 CCW. Jim

'49 8N SHOULD have a front mount dist.If so connect the plug wires as JMOR's top illustration shows.

Many thanks for the help everyone. Forgot to add replaced entire engine wire harness as well a complete tune up. Points, cap, wires etc.
