Good chain video

Saw this video on U'tube a couple of weeks ago. A little long, but the guy has done all kinds of off grid videos. This is a pretty slick way to put big tractor and truck chains on by yourself. Look up "Amazing Snow Chain Hack" He is Wranglerstar. Only thing I would add is to use those stainless steel zip ties from harbor freight to tie up loose chains. They work very nicely and arn't that expensive.

I've seen a few Wranglerstar vids. He's too long winded, and I can't see as anything he's doing isn't something that I haven't already done, other than make videos about something like the benefits of a junk pile, or hammering hot iron, or some other common 'farmer chore'; taking 15 minutes that should only take 3 to explain, in detail. FWIW, the ones I saw I ran at 2X speed. My life is just as interesting to me as his is to him, so I'd rather do my own chores than watch someone else do theirs.

As for tire chains, I use common black zip ties (from Home Depot) to hold the extra side chain links. Current set been holding for 3 years so far.

Well Wranglerstar makes interesting videos. He way of putting chains on was funny to me. His block of wood to hold the tractor up was OK but he still had to lift the chains over the tire. His way only works IF you can lift the tire chains. Try it on a pair of larger tractor chains that you can not lift. An example would be 20,.8 x 42 double bar chains. Each one weights over 300 lbs. One man can not lift these larger chains.

Wranglerstar is successful at making a living shooting videos of rural/country life. His core group is other urbanites. He gives them hope/fantasy that they could leave the hustle and bustle of city life for a simpler one in the country. He is by no means an "expert" at much of what he does. He is a skilled handyman type of person. Meaning many skills but not a true master of most. It is worrisome that he sometimes imparts false information as fact. All in all thought he does a pretty good job entertaining you while passing along knowledge.

A much simpler way is to lay the chains out flat. Then drive the tractor over them until the end is directly under the center of the tire. Take a heavy piece of wire and run it across the rim and tie use it to hold the tire chains ends. Then slowly back up the tractor. The tire chain will wrap itself on the tire as you back up. Stop when you have drove one full revolution. Your chains will be easy to hook up now. Pull ahead one full revolution and take up the slack. Your DONE. To tie the end off I use a spring loaded chain hasp/clip. They are stronger than any tie strap you can buy and you can use it over and over. ( Picture of one.)

Have watched a few of his vids, yeah he is a little long winded. His real job is fireman.

Why does everyone think that chains have to be so tight on a tire that you need to use a chain binder on them? We always just cinched ours up by hand. A little loose and they will clean themselves...too tight and they just pull in between the lugs and are less effective. Cars and trucks I can see it, tractors, no.
