Dodge Journey

need some input on the Dodge Journey 2016 3.4 six cylinder I think is the motor are these cars made to put some miles on? the Dodge has 20,000 mile on it. the car we have now lost a cylinder at 204,000 mile Ford escape with 4 cylinder (2009) the Dodge seems cheap for the year $ 15,000 range compared to 20,000 range for a Ford or Chevy that year thanks for any advise going to go drive one tonight thanks Howard

In my area, Chrysler products have a low resale value. You have to drive then to destruction o get your money's worth out of them. My late wife had a 2005 Ford Escape it was a good car. We put 280K miles on it with very little problems. It lost a cylinder due to the coil pack on the cylinder failing. The only other major problem was having to replace the front wheel bearings. Wish I could have both of them back.

Resale on Mopars has slid, they're not as long lived as some of the competition. We have a 2007 Grand Caravan, don't get me wrong, we like it and it's a comfortable vehicle to travel in and quite handy to have around and I have always been impressed on how strong the 3.8 V6 it has runs. BUT it uses a lot more parts than the Honda and Ford F-150 we have did to get to similar mileage and the rust prevention on it isn't that good, looks like soon the 2007 Dodge will catch up to the 2001 F150 in rust. It will be interesting to see if Fiat-Chrysler makes the cut in the nest economic shale up in the auto industry. I have never dealt much with the Journeys (or Pacificas) but would recommend going to a regular mini-van as opposed to the mini-van lite. If you want a small SUV get a small SUV like a Escape, RAV or CRV and maybe an Equinox or one of it's GM siblings.

the above comments may hold true as far as resale on a 1-3 yr old vehicle ,,.. and I may not be of much help for your situation ,then again , I drive 95 dodge cummins , 350,000,96 crown vic ,280,000 , 69 marquis convertible, 300,000 ,,,2000 Lincoln 180,000, really a glorified crown vic ,,.. best vehicles I ever owned I still own ,, I have owned a celebrity ,, JUNK !!!, cutlass, gran prix,,. all built in the 80s and ALL JUNK !!seems to be a pattern for gm ,.btw all their interiors are junk too 94cadilac northstar ,,more over engineered electronc junk,.motor died from (headgaskets ) same on dodge , Plymouth minivans all run me 250,000 miles on v-6 , done fine until that happened, all these gms and vans were junked within 2 yrs . now another story ,all my fords I ran til I did not consider them safe to go a hundred miles , then someone else drove he ford back and forth to work as a beater for 5 more yrs ,. Also AMONG THE BEST ,,.. I still own and drive my 86 d 250 ,318bought new, 250,000 miles ,.,. I would hop in any and drive across the country (after oil change and tire chek , lol )

If its a 2016 with a V6 it will have the 3.6 engine. That engine is pretty good (in everything from minivans to challengers) from what I've heard but I have no first hand experience. I thought they were the Dodge version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee (they look very similar and are similar in size) but the Dodge is FWD with a transverse mounted engine and the Cherokee is RWD with a longitude mounted engine. I just don't hear good things about Dodge (and Jeep) products in general and my first hand experience has not been good either.

I've heard good things about that engine. Dad bought a used 09 journey used with 64k a couple years back and we all loved it. Literally never went in for service once other then oil changes. Put 40K on it and sold for $10,000. If I could afford a new SUV today, I'd get a journey. If you plan on putting a lot of miles on it instead of selling it in 2-3 years, I wouldn't worry about resale value much.

Just my 2 cents.
