Shear pin for brush cutter

Hard to say. I would start wit ha grade 2 and go from there. I have to use a grade 8 in the one I have because if I don't I don't get much done and even a grade 8 shears pretty easy but it also has a lot of slop where the bolt is so it gets hammered a lot

I always used a grade 5...in the past. I didn't realize that there was a way to improve your recovery effort when you shear one. Use a Grade 2.
Grade 2 isn't as brittle as 5 and surely less brittle than the Grade 8, ?" recommended by JD for my roundbaler, but instead of snapping and in
shearing, they leave you something to find when you have your new bolt in hand and hammer and punch. Also, rather than snapping during an
overload, they sometimes just partially shear, whereby the bolt gets a notch in it but still works fine.

Other thing I found that really helps keep them alive is that I quit locking the nut/lock washer down tight on the yoke. I have been using Grade 2
with a locking nut, with the nut gapped off the yoke and I don't remember the last time I sheared a bolt.

Just something I picked up over the years that went contrary to my initial way of thinking.

Check your manual mine had a hardened bolt
put in i didn't check when i bought it
.Ended up busting the u joint fortunately
the dealer had rented it out and replaced it
for free. I leave the three point in float i
haven't broke many bolts since and i double
nut the bolts

and make sure to use a long enuff bolt that the threads aren't in the shear area. it's a mistake that lots of people make!

I always thought the idea of a shear bolt means it sould shear before
the universal blows up. Stay with a #2 and don't forget to put some
grease on the shaft. Helps from everything getting chewed up.

Your manual should tell and you had better use the right pin.
My brother made the mistake of replacing the grade 2 shear bolt in a near new TSC 6 ft mower with a grade 5 bolt. He twisted the pto shaft into useless junk. He was lucky to have only wrecked the $200 PTO shaft, while he could have done much more damage to the mower gear box or tractor PTO. Check your manual if you have it. If not , many company's have an online site where you can download and print a manual.
