1999 f350 air bag light

Hello, a couple of months ago dad put his 1999 7.3 power stroke away for the winter. Last weekend we decided to start it up and let it warm up. We noticed that after the truck was running the air bag light was on so we got online and did some reading.Online they refer to flash codes so we counted the number of flashes and came up with a code 24. According to the forums a code 24 refers to the air bag electronic crash sensor (ECS) but no body really says where it it located. Does anyone have an idea where the ecs is located? Any and also suggestion an how to fix this are welcome. We contacted ford and where told the truck is to old and they might not have the ability or technology to fix it.

I would make sure the service manager, or regional service rep, was aware of the safety liability issues in not providing the information! It should be easy to obtain and provide to you. or a technician. Jim

It is out front behind the bumper Don't mess with it if you don't know what you are doing. Ford WILL be able to fix it. If they say they can't call the NTSB.

You're lucky you don't have a Dodge. Ours has been recalled because the bag can explode with shrapnel. It's been recalled but the dealers can't get the parts. The company that makes the airbags is suppose to be going bankrupt. The solution the dealer had was to turn the airbag off.

This truck only has one crash sensor, well actually two but they are both contained inside the same unit. The Electronic Crash Sensor is the main "brain" to the air system (aka - air bag diagnostic monitor)

Anyway that code is basically self diagnosed by the system as an internal ECS fault. The ECS is located on the trans tunnel right under the dash. There is a small trim cover/panel held on by two push-on clips that you remove to access the ECS. There is a locking tab on the connector you will need to disengage before pushing tab to unplug the connector and the ECS is bolted to a bracket on the floor

yup the sensors are in the restraint control module. the part number should be yc3z14b321 ba. it shows discontinued by ford. the list price is 310.58. i did a search, there is a ford dealer in kansas that has one in inventory. have your v.i.n number handy if you call so they can check your build sheet to be sure this one is correct. here is a link. if the dealer cannot do the install, check with your favorite local body shop.
poke here

Dealership will most likely have to hook it up to their computer & flash it for it to work. Have had to change a couple and neither would work without the dealerships majic touch.
