Case IH 685 with (2250 loader)

Hello everyone, I have a Case-IH 685 with a Case 2250 loader. I haven't had any issues out of this tractor since we purchased it used a few years ago. I am having issues with my loader raising very very slow. I put hydraulic fluid in it and it still seems to only let up a inch or so then stop, also my 3 point hitch bars have raised for some reason. Does this happen when the hydraulic pump is going out? Is there any way to tell when I have enough fluid in it? Because there are no markings on the dipstick.

Thanks in advance.

use it will lift some , tells me the pump is pumping , but is perhaps starved for oil.
Filter could be plugged ,or maybe the intake is plugged. My first thought would be to
drain out the oil , change the filter , and replace the oil with CaseIH Hy-Tran only.
I am not a salesman for Case IH , just that we found these tractors need a very high
quality oil , because the oil gets very hot , and some oils break down under high
temps. Bruce

I'm with Bruce, you need to change your filter and your oil. If you don't want to put the oil in because of what it costs, buy two filters, change the
filter and if that works buy the oil and put it in with the other new filter. Good luck, Sam

We looked after a 584 and a couple of 585's for several years. Trick # 1, frequently on these tractors the suction tube leaks somewhere up high
in the rear so you have to overfill the transmission until you get it opened up to fix the tube. It will suck air when pointed downhill before it does
it on the flat.

Trick #2 - They only have one pump with a steering priority valve, generally when low on oil, the loader and hitch stop first then shortly after the
steering will get jerky from the air in it, then it quits all together. If the steering is always fine but hitch and remotes and loader quit, the priority
valve may be sticky. Given your hitch is rising, it probably has air trapped in it.

This sounds like a classic case of crud in the unloading valve (which is under the seat, fairly easy to get at). Only a tiny bit of dirt in there will cause all kinds of wonky hydraulics
phenomena. My advice is to change the filter and fluid first, then look at the valve -- if there's junk circulating in the system and you clean the unloading valve but don't do
anything else it'll get gunked up again, when it's least convenient.

Ah yes that's true, also if the 3 point hitch is out of adjustment, it will constantly try to raise the hitch. Once it get to the top it will stay pumping out the hitch relief valve and not also flow to the loader circuit. The steering will continue to work due to priority valve but the fluid will heat up quickly. Other think to watch is the remote valves frequently get bumped by the drivers knee putting the valve into the constant pumping detent. They are often set so tight on the detent they don't kick out and just pump against the relief valve. I think they are after the hitch valve in the sequence but my book is out on loan to a 584 owner with a constantly running PTO.
