Currently have our crawler engine apart to replace the crank the end of it was damaged. The engine wasn't apart that long ago. The bearing's don't have that much wear. Once we replace the crankshaft. Would it work to reuse the bearing's? Thanks allot folks!!!!!

On the back side of the bearings you will find something like std,.010,.020 .030 etc. That means, standard size, or .010 under size crank. If the crank is machined, it is under sized and the bearings will be over sized. You can t use a standard crank and .010 bearings, everything must match. Having said that, you will need a product called Plastigauge, any auto parts store should have it in stock. If you get the clearances you need use the old bearings.
Just make sure it is right, or you will get to buy all of the parts again.

You are supposed to ask the guy that is repairing the crank. He tells you what you need for bearings Once he gets done. He could tell you that your journals are shiny like new and go ahead and reuse the bearings, but it is not likely.

you said replace the crank, well you dont reuse brgs. on a different crank. that simple. if u were to reuse brgs, then they must go back to the matching journals on the same crank.

Replace the crank=replace the bearings. Unless as mentioned below, you want to do it all over again in a couple of hundred hours, (if even that long). BTDT back in my "broke enough I can't afford a ham sammich" days. Cost me around $13,000 in the end. Believe me, you be glad you put new ones in.

Hello Allison,

No it's not o.k to reuse bearings in you brand new crankshaft! Cheaper now then later

GUIDO.

If you use your own judgment..!

IF they are UN-Damaged and UN-worn I sure would leave them in..but they would have to appear " Like New".

The critical part is the TOP Layer that meets the Journal.. Some will say no, they have been "Crushed" when the Cap is torqued down, I believe in a tractor engine, RPM will not likely be a problem..I would put them back ( or don't take them out !) in IF they DO appear Like New..
