My rant, Big Tex trailers....

I dropped $13,000 on two Big Tex Trailers 12-6-16, partly because they were offering a $400 gift card on one, and a $300 gift card on the other. Here is the wording from their website:

"Online forms filled out should receive a confirmation email upon completion. Online Entries must be placed by February 6th , 2017. Mailed rebate request must be postmarked no later than January 6th, 2017. No return PO Boxes addresses allowed. Forms and upload instructions can be found at the official Big Tex Haulidays web page www.bigtextrailers.com/haulidays . Offer subject to change without notice. Big Tex reserves the right to provide alternate rebate item of equal or greater value if rebate item (gift card) is unavailable. Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery, by mail, to the address listed on redemption form"

So here it is Jan 27 and no gift cards, so I re-read the fine print and realize I never got a confirmation from Big Tex after I submitted my info on 12-7. I chat on-line with BT and at first they say I am too late as the offer has expired...then when I cut and paste this she apologizes...then confirms that they have received my information and that I should receive my cards 6-8 weeks after Feb 6th! What the he!!? Their offer sure doesn't say that, and rather misleading. I think a normal person would assume 6-8 weeks after submission. I'm about ready to get some (DISAPPOINTMENT) decals to put over the TEX decals on my trailers...How do you guys interpret it?

OK, rant over......

Yep. As I stated at the start of my rant, I suspect there are LOTS of frustrated folks out there. If we keep the rants going, hopefully
enough companies see and hear and start reversing this NO SERVICE trend.

Thanks for the info I had been thinking of buying a Big Texs trailer No way will that happen after your report. Randy

I purchased a Big Tex trailer a couple of years ago. It was a 22ft tilt equipment trailer.I had to wait because it was a special color (yellow) It took 2 weeks longer than they told me. I was told that it had sealed wiring but it has typical old trailer wiring with twist connectors. The paint on it was sorry, soft faded and peeled. they painted right over the rust. The super yellow wood on the deck is already rotted in places. I am sure I will never buy another trailer but if I do, it won't be a Big Tex.

(quoted from post at 16:53:27 01/27/17) I interrupt it that you paid to much and they maybe give you a little bit of it back.

Yeah that is the gist of it....but they get to use your money for 4 months for free.....

I bought a 16' trailer in 2013 and the floor rotted out in 2 years. The paint has faded and I've repaired the wiring once. The next trailer I got was a PJ. No complaints.

I have been a PJ fan for 13 yrs, thought I would try Big Tex because I see a lot of them around, and my discount PJ dealer went out of business. I am not too impressed with the Big Tex, it rattles a lot more than the PJ. I heard a gn would ride and handle better, but so far I like the PJ bp better. Wiring is definitely better on the PJ...kinda cheap to use exposed romex for the taillights.

Eldon, Do you have an email address for big tex? If you send a ULR for this post and several of our friends on this site also sent out this post. Do you think they "might" process the paperwork faster? No company likes bad PR. If you are lucky they might sweeten the deal for your trouble. joe

Or....their offer "might be subject to change" :(

I looked at a number of trailers before I bought one and big Tex was one. I ended up buying a BP 14,000 lb. 24 FT.low Profile in 2012. It sets outside but floor is tarped in winter and floor is coated with motor oil every summer. Paint is holding up good and floor of trailer is solid.

Have been in a quest for a new 32' GN trailer, I will look else where now as I don't like the smell of your treatment. THANK YOU
for posting this.

I have had 4 new gooseneck trailers in my life--Big Tex is my current trailer and by far the BEST. The worst was the Kiefer. The wait for your "rebate" will be worth it!----Tee

I bought a PJ in 2009 after a lot of research on line and looking at trailers in person. Time to upgrade so I again did a lot of internet surfing as well as stopping at dealer lots. Then I started with price shopping by calling dealers comparing apples to apples. I am in Indiana. Best price locally was in Ohio. But a dealer in Texas beat them by $1400 on the same trailer. We went to Texas to visit my b-i-l and stopped at the dealer there. Even stopped at the Big Tex trailer manufacturer and looked around. Not impressed at all. Price was correct on the PJ so I paid for it. Got home from our trip, turned around and went back and picked up the trailer.

There are several manufacturers along I-30 in east Texas so it was easy to compare brands right where they are made.

Yeah I bought my last PJ in Wisconsin 4 years ago and saved $1800 over local...that dealer is no longer selling PJ...I was going to buy one in SD and pick it up while back there visiting family at Xmas, but saw this deal (not better, but closer) and had a dealer 2 miles away. I guess time will tell if I made the right decision...I guess if I have any problems I shouldn't have to go far to get them fixed.

I bought my first PJ 3 years ago and will have to see something real special to get me to look elsewhere for the next trailer. Best bang for the buck that I am aware of.

When I bought trailers for ADOT, the Big Tex dealer knew better than to submit a bid because they couldn't meet the specifications. There was a local manufacturer that was difficult to deal with sometimes but I got along with him most of the time. We got into it when he used carriage bolts instead of elevator bolts as specified to bolt the rubber to the fold-down ramps. I made him to change the bolts before I would authorize payment.

I think they are built in Red Oak, TX. South of Dallas on I-35E. Never had one but you see a lot of them around here. Can't comment on what
owner's think, but proof is in the puddin....lots to be seen.

Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery.

Good god man it's only been around 3 weeks ! Good things come to those who wait.

Sorry ! Sorry ! Sorry ! Too early in the morning. I can't read yet.

Went back and reread it a few more times. I now see what you mean. I guess in another 6 weeks you may have to contact them again.

They reserve the right to provide alternate rebate item of equal value if gift cards not available? Since when are gift cards ever "not available"? And what would the "alternate rebate item" be? Perhaps some leftover parts from a discontinued model? Or $400 worth of breakfast sandwiches at the Golden Arches? You've got some pretty big trucks at your operation, I imagine, but I'll bet any one of them could be driven through the loopholes in that deal.

That 6 to 8 wks. business gets me, I bet they don't want to wait 6 to 8 wks. for you to pay them.

Yeah, the 7000# Load Trail I bought over 10 years has been a good trailer. It actually looks like a 10000# with two 3500# axles under it. Examples, frame and tongue is 5
" channel, Coupler is rated 12000#, ramps look like you could load a army tank on them. I actually made lighter wood ones.
