Any one have one go bad where it won't turn freely so the engine won't warm up. Sounds like a freight train when I start my pick up. I thought
they just wouldn't engage when they went bad.

Yeppers, they can do either when they go bad. They can also come apart and take out a radiator too.

Had to rebuild the air fan clutch in my Kenworth last spring, would not engage so it was overheating.

I had one come apart on a Mack truck that I drive occasionally. I got back to the job site with my load, and asked the owner about a ride back from the dealer. He thought that I should take it another 60 miles for another load. I asked him if he really wanted to add a few thousand for a new radiator to the bill. He changed his mind.

1977 F 250,460 on Propane, Club Cab. Clutch assembly failed, entire hub and fan bored a hole into Rad Cores!

Fan clutch normal operation is to engage on start up and will release seconds to a minute later. I get about 3 blocks before mine coasts. Thermostat will keep an engine from warming up.

You must have a viscous fan drive-yes they do lock up and fail. And this will prevent engine warm up,especially in cold weather.I have changed a bunch of them that locked up.Mark

Yes they will fail that way. The bearing they idle on gets dry and locks the clutch to the shaft. Many times when this happens they are also out of balance because they don't lock perfectly in alignment. You need to change it immediately as those fans really aren't supposed to spin at full engine rpm. I know, they sell those fan clutch eliminators but they are a bad idea especially on pickups with low gears.

BTDT........They are hungry!
Will take out a heater hose, a trans line and a nice chunk of inner fender, all at the same whack! In addition, if you have an extinguisher handy, you can get the trans oil fire out, rather quickly.
