Identify tractor generator

I just bought a Ferguson TO 20. I know it is supposed to be 6v system but it has a 12v battery and a generator. All 12v conversions I have saw have an alternator. I would like to know if anyone knows if this gen. is 6 or 12v. All I see on it is the Logo FOMOCO and on other end is the # POV101398. Those first 2 letters could be R or Q but I don't think so

If the case is straight the full length,it's 6 volt. If the diameter is smaller at the back end around the brushes,it's 12.

My AC D19 came factory with a 12V Generator and I've seen WD-45s with the same generator that had been put on in place of the 6V don't know if AC had a conversion kit or
whether owners or dealers installed them.

A 6v can be redone to make it a 12v. Had that done on a 1949 AC model WF...kept the same appearance but doubled the voltage, for quicker starting.

Something has been changed, it would have had a Delco originally.

Is it working? If so, leave it be.

If it's not working, and you want to keep it 12 volt, it would be easy and economical to convert it to an alternator. Just be sure to get the right pulley to match the wide belt, and get the bracket right so everything is aligned properly.

The disadvantage to running 12v is it is hard on the starter drive and flywheel gear. The flywheel gear is pressed on from the back side of the flywheel on those. Sometimes it will work back and the starter will not engage.

Look real careful at the end plate part# again.
10139B is basic number. The first 3 letters/numbers will be the key P or Q
I can't figure out. B6A 10139B would fit many 12 Volt generators 56 thru 64 .

Ford generators for small cars in England and the Falcons, early Econolines were small diameter about like 6 volt for some tractors. IHC conversions of H's note the Ford Generators from Falcons to 1964 were also made for other things into 1970's --and the reason of interest to the IHC people is it fits under hood, no cutting or metal pounding and a adjustable pulley sheave adapter is or was available. A TO20 with low hood and snug spacing would be logical--Also Ford 8,9,2 N's would use the generator for upgrades, check archives for the late 1950s adapter kits using the car generator, was something some of the Ford tractor dealers got info from factory- logical since it used the 12 volt Ford current made generator- also was for some cars and trucks upgrades when dealer couldn't sell new vehicle. Brother checked out a conversion for his H- wanted 12 volts for car radio mounted on it, didn't like using 12 volt motorcycle battery to play radio as total loss, need to recharge it and neighbor had 12 volt conversion that started better in winter, had Motorola2 way and AM/FM besides. RN.
