Dual hardware

Have any of you ever used these style hoops to mount clamp on duals on power adjust wheels? I guess my biggest concern it with them slipping off. I wonder if I should mark the holes where the set screws go,then at least drill shallow holes for them to tighten in to so they stay put?

In your first picture, can you just replace the nut with the commonly used eye ? Something with the power wheels that prevents that?

They have to be super tight because of the taper of the blocks,I know that from experience. I'd be afraid of not getting them tight enough. If I move the wheels in or out,it would drastically chance the length needed on the J rods on the duals too. The power adjust rail stays in one place, those nuts are on the centers and move in and out.

You shouldn't have any problems with them if they are snug against the corner of the rail. The pulling force will be against a fixed point, not those little set screws. I have a tractor like that, have not put duals on it yet, but duals were on it when I bought it and all of the hardware is tight. I tried to get a pair off of a 150hp parts tractor once and couldn't budge the screws...was afraid I would twist them off so I didn't come home with them.

Ya, my Masseys use that set up, never had a problem with them but the my little Oliver loving repair man says he has seen some crack the weld on the rails, he recommends the ones that screw onto the bolt, I posted a pic of it. Like I said I have not had any trouble with the kind you have, never had any slip off.

I hoped they'd be OK the way they are,or somebody would have changed the design by now. My 1850 had them on it when I bought it,but I didn't buy the duals with it and those things went with the duals. These are going on my 2-105.
With the curve of the wheel and all,it might be quite a feat to get a hole started without the bit walking off.

Those things are getting awful pricy. Eight of them cost me almost as much as the duals for the 1850 brought with those included.

A neighbor had a Massey Super 90 with power adjust. He just bent some rod and welded it to the end of the rails, but I'm not quite in to cobbling to that extent. Believe it or not. LOL

Looks like the ones on my MF 180. The set screws only hold it in position. Clamping to rails, and they pull against the bend in the rails. Not been a problem in the time I have used them, and my father-in-law before me. And I tighten those rim clamps that hold the second tire as tight as I can. Believe most of the forces are concentrated on the ring on the outside tire that goes up against the rim on the inside.

Kinda hard to see in the pics, but this set I have use threaded rod with flat plates welded on the end that have a tapered hook cut in the end to hook the rail...cheap and seem to work well.

I have a set of these on another tractor. The trick with power adjust wheels is to use longer bolts with the wedges and use the regular nut, then screw these on after locking the wedges...like a double nut.

I have a set of the ones that clamp to the rail on my WD45. I've only used them 3-4 times, but they seems to work good. I think the key is to get them tight against the rail curve.

I have a 185 that I want to get the eyelets on. I like the idea of the double nut. Mine wheels are set all the way in for 30" rows. I don't see why I would need to slide them out unless I decided to plow with it.

I had duals on the D17 for years, and just used a J bolt that hooked over the end of the rail. Never a problem with them loosening.
