Ok, I have this engine out of an MF 540 combine 2100 hrs. been sitting last 15 year in heated shop. decided to try starting it. I mounted a jug of fuel and its sitting 2 ft. above engine. I hand prime the injector pump seems to pump up. But I get no fuel at the injectors.
I've now had injection pump off and taken apart, it was very clean, flushed with carb cleaner upon assembly, bought cheap chinese pump kit. reassembled and still have the same issue. fuel metering valve in pump was originally stuck. I polished it and it works fine. installed new gaskets and have same issue. I pulled cover off to check metering rod and its free. fuel will gravity feed through pump..
Today I pulled 3 injectors to see if it would spin faster. I also took apart fuel inlet spring plunger assembly, piston is free reassembled correctly, no fuel at injectors with throttle wide open.
What do I check next? Would the lift pump cause this issue? It pumps by hand. :?:

In my experiences yes. The fuel shutdown on
a cav pump is tricky to get lined up also. I
have also had problems with pieces of the
rubber seals breaking off and pluging the
lines hope this helps.

Setting that long I'll bet the rotor plungers are stuck too. I have the same engine in the shop I pulled from a 540 combine too, not sure what it might go in. Have a nice straight early Farmall 656 gas that needs an engine, would it be blasphemous to put the 318 in it? LOL

Sure would John! Talked to a fellow awhile back from southern Indiana that put a 318 in a Cockshutt 30 for pulling. Would not allow that where I play but he was having fun with it where he lived.

You said you freed up the MV..
Did you free up the pumping plungers behind the shoes & rollers??
That's what pumps the fuel.. the plungers..
You would have to take the end plate off, remove the transfer pump liner & blades,
then remove the transfer pump rotor to remove the shoes & rollers to access the pumping plungers..
Seems like you might have missed a step or 3..

Ok I did check the rollers but did not check plungers. Pump was extremely clean. Today I checked the transfer pump I read that it should have some suction. cant feel any, took it apart again, clean a little scaring. not much. reassembled and no suction, or fuel at injectors.
Would a bad lift pump cause some issues? fuel free flows to injection pump. and lift pump does bleed the pump.
can cranking speed affect this?
kind of at a loss now.
