[b:c1fa011ffd]1949 8N. Front timing shaft removal. For clarification I bring #1 cylinder to TDC compression stroke. I make sure of where rotor button is facing I assume on #1 cylinder on distributor cap? Removing to install new points. etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ricky Again it's a front distributor shaft.[/b:c1fa011ffd]

to install points on a ford front distributor: remove distr cap ,see where rotor is pointing, remove distr ,tune it and put back on with rotor pointing in same direction. While you have distributor off make sure the engine does not get turned. take ground wire off battery.really very simple once you do it. rick

You are asking about removing the distributor, right?

No problem, it is designed to be easily removed and reinstalled.

It has an offset drive key, will only go back on one way.

16-30 it won't make any difference if the motor is turned or not. The distributor will only go back in 1 way. It has an offset so it won't get out of time. Keith

Make sure you have the gasket in place and use the correct bolts in correct spot. A longer bolt will hit timing gear.
