Trans rear end flush

I am changing oil in my rear end. In the past I have flushed them with diesel. I read that doing that just stirs things up. So what's your vote? Flush or not to flush?

yes flush if you have junk in there. diesel does little to carry the junk out, it has no viscosity to carry fine particles out. they just sit on the bottom of case.also not the best for brgs. or diff if driving to flush as no lube. i use used ordinary hyd. oil which i have access to from work. there is many ways to flush it. save your old oils and settle them out and use for flushing. mix old gear oil with 1/2 diesel. drive or block rear wheels up and run tractor in gear. raise front end to drain.

This one is an Oliver 60. I drained it cold because it had water in it. Didn't want to mix it up. The stuff that came out was like mud.

I have had good luck with taking top covers off and recirculation Diesel to flush out the sludge.

If you can get any top covers off I often use a pump up hand sprayer with diesel fuel in it to wash the inside of the cases out. On rear ends on trucks and such I take the back cover off and wash them down. I even stick the wand up the drain plug hole and flush anything out I can.

Then If I still think there maybe more dirt/junk I mix K-1 with hydraulic oil and fill the transmission. Then run it some, the hydraulic oil will lube enough to not hurt anything not under a heavy load and will carry stuff out better than plain diesel or K-1.

I just do whatever seems to be the most effective.

Taking the top off, or an inspection plate, a solvent soaked rag works well if you can get in there. Or one of those air-siphon guns with solvent will blast loose the stuck sediment.

Then a flush with diesel or cheap hydraulic fluid. Just be careful what you use if it has wet clutches or brakes.

Thanks guys. I will look into taking covers off and running some Diesel and hydraulic oil in it to flush. I got side tracked. I'm working on the TD6 now.
