MF 180 no steering

MF180, had steering lead, repaired, filled reservoir, Plessie type, ran tractor, kept reservoir full, turned steering wheel occasionally, still no steering. Raised tractor front and turned front wheels back and forth, very difficult, had to use a bar to do so, no visible binding of any kind. PS filter changed about six months ago. Using Dexron II for fluid. Anyone have any ideas of how to bleed air from system. I believe that is the problem.

Thank you for the post. The steering wheel does not have a stop, I believe it is the hydra motor type, unit is at the bottom of the steering column. I have turned the steering wheel both ways several times, resistance, but no attempt for the front wheels to turn.

Thanks to all. I will continue to rotate the steering wheel back and forth. I am about three hours into this process. Good to hear I am not missing a part of the bleeding process.

Maybe it's me this morning, but I don't quite get what that means. Did you have the steering hydramotor rebuilt? If so,who did it? Those things are super touchy and need to be done by somebody who has the knowledge and tools to do it right.

What he said. But I'd like to add don't be too close to the hole. A burp of air can spew oil on you. Learned the hard way.

greetings, you should try posting on the Massey/MF board on this forum, that's where the MF experts reside and are a real helpful group. Good luck.

What kind of leak did you have? A simple hose replacement? Or something more serious, as in removing components or multiple hoses?

If everything is connected and working properly, it should self bleed as the steering is turned.

Might try cracking a pressure line loose somewhere above the pump. If there is flow, the pump is trying to circulate, it is not airlocked. If the pump is supplying fluid, and no steering, something is plumbed wrong, or there is a problem with the steering motor.

If the steering motor has been disassembled, they are very easy to assemble wrong. It will go together many ways but only work when right. BTDT!
