5.9 cummins engine oil leak

I just happen to be 500 miles from home and noticed I have a oil leak on my 05 Dodge cummins looks to be coming from the valve cover gasket. I checked the oil it was about a quart and a half low. It was on full when I left. Is there any kind of additive or some call snake oil to slow it down until I can get home to fix it. Or should I just stop every so often and check and add?

Mtractor,

If it was my truck, spend your money on oil...save your "snake oil" money. You know oil works.

My opinion only,

D.

No, no additive will fix, or slow the leak.

Looking at Youtube, that looks like an easy fix. Could you do it on the road?

I can't fix it on the road. It is raining a lot . I think I will just add oil every so often and fix when I get home. Thanks

might want to check for PCV valve issue, that is a lot of oil to leak out of valve cover that quickly.

Do you think my pcv filter may be stopped up? There is some blow by smoke (no oil) coming out of my blow by tube down by the starter. Yes I thought that was a lot of oil from a valve cover.

For those year of cummins, the crankcase breather/separator is not actually a filter, the newer trucks are a filter though. Inside that box there are baffles, not filter media and I have never heard of one clogging. Valve cover gaskets are pretty common for leaks, but make sure its not the side/tappet cover either. Keep adding oil to get it home and fix it there.

Thanks . It looks to be leaking more from the passenger side but it is leaking on the driver side to but not as much.
