I asked on here a while back about the creosote sweeping logs, I tried one a while back in my 8" double wall stainless chimney, it worked just like they said. stuff got brittle and fell out. can't say what it'll do in masonary but in stainless it does great

Which one did you use. Have tried a couple with no effect. Stainless liner in a crock and brick chimney.

I thought Creosote was a banned chemical in the USA. I know you can't buy it to preserve wood products in my area.

I think the stuff would fall out of a metal pipe anyway. I never use that type log and the stuff falls off the inside of the pipe all the time. One pass with a wire brush and the pipe is clean.

I don't think the chimney knows it not supposed to let the creosote build up inside.

Anyway, it's the Russians fault.

Assuming you are serious, and not a flame, the log is designed to burn with a chemical reaction that removes creosote from the chimney, it is not made from it. Jim

I have been using the Rutland granular creosote remover for around 20 years. Just throw a scope in every week and it does make the creosote flaky.

Never had a creosoot problem here. Instead of stuffing the firebox full and closing off the air vents. A modest sized fire is kept burning bright and clean with the vents opened up some.
