Well had my surgery on Wednesday. They removed my disc and put in a spacer. Surgery went well hardly no leg pain and numbness doc feels what little I have left will be gone in a week or so. Biggest pain I have is my stomach where they cut me to go in hope it is gone in a week or so too. THANKS ADAM L.

Good Luck with the healing process. I had two friends where they did back surgery through the stomach with great success. Paul

Good luck, let us know how it holds up, I am waiting for the replacement discs to get better.

I had a disketomy (sp) back in 1996 and I have never been the same. L-5/S-1. I did get my left leg back but I'm in pain 24/7 -365 and sometime 366. LOL.

One thing to be sure you do is what the doctor tells you and nothing more. I was not allowed to do that and that may have caused part of my problems

My wife and dad both have back problems. Dad got shot down twice in Nam, and The Boss got hit by a 18wheeler twice in the same wreck.

The wife has had 2 fusions now. C4,5,6 are all held together with screws and shims. My dad has L 1-5 fused together. Both live with chronic pain.

Morphine and Hydorcodone aint much better than candy to either of them.

Hope your surgery goes better

Had back surgery done in 2007, 3 disc removed from L1 to L4 , 2 rods put in with 8 screws, a little stiff but am able to do anything I want, working cows baling hay gardening etc. Glad I found the neurosurgeon that did it as I guess he did a really good job!!

That's good news. We too often hear about the surgeries gone bad but we don't hear enough about the successes. Thanks for keeping us posted.

Similar situation here...Discectomy, L5-S1 Fusion but still had the PAIN in my Hip, numbness in my thigh and my foot would also go numb....

Neurosurgeon wanted to do a 2nd Fusion..( "We can just move those Rods UP"..) she said..

NOW..HERE is what I did and I HOPE you take my advice about this....

I found a physician who Specializes in PAIN Management..treats really SEVERE Pain ( The Worst kinds )..

He CAN relieve Pain and I have confidence mine could pretty much eliminate your pain..

I have a Neuro-Stimulator in my side that powers a set ( 2) of leads up beside my Spinal Chord that create a magnetic field across my Spinal Chord and that has Completely eliminated my numbness and at least 90% of any pain..!!

Hey, if need be, he can even put in a Morphine pump..but you wont need anything like that ( usually reserved for Cancer victims, etc).

A Neuro-Surgeon will NOT tell you abouot this option and I LIKE My Dr's Motto.." You have many Options before you have to Submit to a Knife"..!!

Mine was put in in 2011 and now I can leave mine set so LOW I have NO idea it is even ON..and if I turn it off ( for an EKG. etc, my pain may not come back for a WEEK or more if I forget to turn it back on ( I use a small strong Magnet).

Here, my Dr's name is Gladstone Churchill McDowell and he can be contacted at 614-383-6450

I am sure their Office will try to refer you..they DO Screen New Patients closely, so don't be surprised if they send you to a second Dr for evaluation at the beginning..
Hope you DO look into this..I have gone from using a CANE ( with a Seat on it) to actively Western Square Dancing and Round Dancing..!!!

I am in Ohio and Dr. McDowell is in Columbus, Ohio.

Glad to hear it"s working for you. I had back surgery 3 weeks ago tomorrow (laminectomy L3-4-5). I"ve had stenosis for years and waited til I had my second hip replaced, then got going on the back issue. Like the hips, had to work it around crop schedule. Was scheduled for last June, but postponed it til December when I found out the lifting restriction...10-15 lbs for 6 weeks. I followed dr exercise regimen for the hips and they turned out great- doing the same for the back. Slack time of year to get it done.
