Longest battery life you've had??

I'm sure this has come up on here before but what do you guys consider a good lifespan for a battery? What's the longest you've had one last? Just replaced the one in my pickup yesterday and it was from 2009. Seemed like a very long life to me... What about you?

My 2004 pickup original battery lasted until 2015 11 yrs. When I changed it out the cable clamps disintegrated when I tried to remove them.

I have a 7830 tractor that was made in 2007 and the batteries are still strong .So just about 10 years so
far.

I had a Sears DieHard that lasted 15 years in my IH 1200D PU that I plowed snow with for several years with an electric plow pump. I've had good service from Exide batteries from TSC (10-11 yrs on a tractor, 8yrs on a deep cycle application), and not so good with batteries from WM (4-5 yrs, regardless of application). YMMV

The battery in my 2000 F350 lasted until fall of 2015. It was getting weaker but at that age I just had to see how long it would last. It started the truck one cold morning and I drove it about a mile to get gas. When I tried to restart it the old warrior was dead but how could I complain?

I don't even remember what year I refurbished my Oliver 77. 1997 I think. The battery I put in it then is still in it. I use it seven days a week,365 days a year. I believe that one's a Spartan.

If you want to count lawn mowers. I bought a JD 325 new in 2000 and replaced the battery in 2013. Replacement only lasted 2 years though.

I bought a new F350 diesel in May of 2001 and about a year later one of the batteries went bad. Ford warranted the battery but would only replace the bad one. I was always taught that it is not good to mix new and old batteries so I replaced the other good one with a new battery also. The battery I removed ended up in my Jeager air compressor and it finally gave up last year at 15 years old.

Here in the desert two years for a battery is considered kind of normal. Four years is a real exception.

As a post below, I had a Sears Die hard that lasted 11 years in an old Ford pickup that I drove daily.

The 1958 GMC grain truck has a battery in it from 2008. I have no idea where it came from because it isn't a brand I've ever bought. I'm sure it
came in a tractor I traded or something and just shoved it in there. i haven't had the truck since 2008' so I know it wasn't new to me but I never
remember changing it.

The IH 886 has two 12 volts from Walmart in it that the previous owner put in. They aren't all that big - I would have used way more CCA. I don't
recall that they are much more than 700, but I don't think it called for much when it was new. They will be 12 years old this spring. It gets used
daily and started without the block heater unless it is well below freezing. Theres no shortage of electrical gizmos in it (although the tractor has
no computer).

Down here in So Tex,, 2 to 4 years is the norm.. usually 3 on most on-road vehicles... however I can get 7 to 8 with a battery minder on the non-road equipment assuming I add water to the electrolyte. Even the maintenance free batteries will need to broken into, and add to if over 3 years old.

You had me too darned curious. I went out and took a picture of the tag on the one in the 77. It's punched out 1. I have to think it's 01 not 11. I don't remember changing it at all,but I might have robbed the battery out of it and put it in something else then replaced it with a new one. It's heck to get old.

The first battery in my 1879 F-250 lasted 11 years, the second on lasted 11 more. The third one is still going. So is the pickup although it now belongs to my brother-in-law.

Just replaced the batteries in my combine last month. The old ones had been in there since I bought it in July, 2004. The 4DLT that came
in my 7600 lasted 13 years. Those are the longest lasting ones I've had. 5-7 years is more typical.

Well are ya'll ready for this one , 203 Dodge Durango with the old iron block 360 is still on the org . battery . Yep i have never in my life had a battery go past 8 years . This one is still going . Three years ago we had a really deep cold snap and i was dead sure that when the War Dept. went out in the morning to go to work that i would have to go out and get the truck going to drag the Durango out of the garage and have to jump it as there is noway to get to the ft. end to open the hood . But it fired up with no problems then again the next year and the next and on into this year. Last time i had it running was the first week in Dec. to go deer hunting and it has not moved since . When this rain lets up i have to go and get some machine work done and we will see if it starts. When this battery dies i think i'll have it bronzed .

I bought a new John Deere 212 garden tractor with a factory-installed automotive-size battery in 1978 (overkill?). I didn't have to replace the battery until 1997. Granted, a one-cylinder Kohler engine doesn't put too many demands on a battery. I now use a cheap lawn-tractor battery about one-third the amps of the original and it starts the Kohler just fine.

My little Kubota has a 2002 battery in it. 2500+/- hours on the tractor. Starts in -30 C (-20 F) every time, no block heater installed.

The tricks I've found to good battery life:
-Keep a good alternator on the vehicle with good wiring
-Run the vehicle regularly
-Never let the battery get deeply discharged!

I've lost 4 or 5 batteries in other vehicles lately from drains and the vehicle sitting a month or two. Gets to be very expensive.

1994 ford 1720 tractor, I bought it used in 1998 with
400 hours on it, I had to replace the battery in 2010.
Best luck I ever had with a battery. Probably never
see that again.

I bought my previous truck, 2001 Chevy in 04 or 05. It must have still had the original battery in it. I finally replaced it in around 2012 or 2013 - was afraid it might go in the middle of no-where some cold day. I put that battery in a McCormick W-4 I had just purchased - October of that year - and it is still in that tractor and starts it just fine. (it was converted to 12 volt by the previous owner)..

2003 Dodge 1500HD (Hemi), yep still the original battery.

Normally, I would have replaced it long ago, but I want to see just how long it will last.

. Had a 74 Ford truck that the battery lasted for 14 years. But my old Lincoln Town Car the battery went dead and I put a new Interstate Battery in it and as expected it went dead just two weeks after the two year war entry expired. so I fixed them I went to Wal-Mart and bought the cheapest battery I could get and it only has a one year warentry on it.

Optima Yellow top. Bought the battery in 2003. Started in my ZR2 Blazer, then went into my Colorado, then GMC pick-up and finally left with that GMC when it was traded in March, 2014 and was still starting the truck just fine. All vehicles were my daily driver so it saw plenty of use.

Batteries are like the country song I'm not
as good as I once was. An old battery only
has to be good once to get the engine
running. And I can say I'll using a 2001
lawn mower to start a healthy rebuilt engine
on my farmall C. I just tested it battery
only produces 210 cca. It usually fires
after the first crank. So it's good enough.
I used the orginal battery in A VW bug for
11 years. Battery was made in Germany. It
was still working when I sold THE car.

My wife and son each bought a new Chevy in 09, both still going strong. My 2013 Chevy truck needs a battery now.

I had a battery this summer go bad on me but ti said it was made in 2005 so it was 10 years sold. Back when I was in the Navy my dad gave me one of those forever batteries from J.C. Penny's and I think I had to have them replace it once every couple of years till they finally gave up and to me no more and that they no longer could/would warranty there forever batteries due to the fact they did not last long

I have a side terminal battery that was purchased before moving to South Dakota in 2003 that is still going. It had easy use (starting an old Gravely L8), then sat for awhile (4-5 years, inside the house and charged every month in the winters when I remembered to charge the other mower batteries and such. Pretty much ignored in the summers as it was the only battery in there). My son needed a new battery for his '94 Buick 6 cylinder. I thought this one would be long dead, but it spun it over just dandy. I told him he was living on borrowed time, but that was probably a year ago and it's still working for him.

I have a 2004 Dodge 3500 with a Cummins that I bought new in Sept. 2003 still has original batteries in it. Well after this post they will go dead!!!! LOL

Battery in my tractor is 22 years old, and going strong..... The starter turned slowly last couple years. Figured the battery was just about shot. Threw the charger on. To my surprise, the charger gauge jumped up, and read full. As if it were a new battery. I pulled the battery, cleaned all connections, and put it back in. Tractor spins over as if I put a new battery in.

The one that spins my '36 F12 is getting weak, but its over 50. ;)
Battery in my '08 F150 is original still. Knock on wood.

Old, I remember when JC penny sold the maintenance free lifetime battery. They did the same thing to me. At some point they said we no longer carry the battery. Sorry

So much for the definition of lifetime. I recently discovered that Auto zones definition of lifetime is different form O'Reilly's. I purchased lifetime brake pads form O'Reilly's and they wore out. Went back for new ones and they said our lifetime means we will replace it if it's a manufacturer's defect. So I went across the street to the Zone for new pads. Then I asked them what's their definition of lifetime. They looked at me funny and said what do you mean? I said is this manufacturer's life time or wear lifetime. Zone said, when the pads wear out, bring them back and we'll replace them. BYW the zone was half the price.

I just purchased a new Maytag dishwasher. On the front is a sticker, 10 year limited lifetime. Read the fine print on owner's manual. One year on machine, 10 years on motor. So if motor goes bad on year two, do you get a free motor and pay for service call and labor to install? Again, loop holes in definition of lifetime. Read the fine print.

Back to the post, Longest battery life? My old jubilee came with a 12 v battery with one weak cell. The battery is about 10 years old now, but still works. So can I blow my horn and claim battery is good? If the same battery were in a hard starting diesel, wouldn't it have been replaced years earlier? Or wouldn't someone have the battery on life support, a trickle charger.

Guess your O'Reilly's is not as good as mine is. If it says life time and I bring it back they hand me a new parts no questions ask but then again I have been going to that store for 36.7 years and as of July it will be 37 years. I am well known in that store and like yesterday the manager handed me his truck keys and told me to get some egg carton out of his truck. Walked out the back door which is for employees only but he also told me to go that way so I d get my perks there plus sell my eggs there also. I have been shopping there longer then the manager has been there also LOL. Also if they have some one come in needed tractor help they call me

9+ in my Branson OEM. Longest on record for me by over 2:1. Worst was an OEM Diehard, back 20+ years ago. OEM in 2011 Silverado is doing
fine. I think it's a Delco with the reserve and "all that rot".
