8n hydraulic lift not working

My position hydraulic lever will not operate my lift bars on my 8n ford tractor. I changed the transmission / hydraulic oil and it was milky with lots of thick gunk that came out the rear drain plug. The position lever will raise the lift bars if I pull back on the small position lever. It actually work better than ever with a slight pull on the all position lever. How can I fix this?

I wanted to say my large touch control hydraulic lever will not work unless I pull back on the small position lever.

The small lever is the draft/position control and some times things get out of adjustment and cause that type of problem. First thing you need to do is get your self a FO-4 IT manual so you will have a better idea of what all needs to be looked at

9N and 2N only have draft but the 8N had the improved 3 point system wit ha lever for position which is when it is up and down for draft control. Lever is under the seat on the right hand side and is about 3 inch long

I have a FO-4 manual. Do you have any adjustments that you could recommend? The small position control lever looks like it has a bolt that runs through the shaft so I am not sure it can be adjusted?

Thanks, most of my experience was with a 9N. My brother bought a new 8n when they came out but I did a limited amount of plowing with it. Guess I never found the draft controll. I have a 40 Ferguson now with a draft controll beside the lift controll.

The adjustments are done on the inside of the system. Since you have the manual go to the hyds/3 point area and then pull the inspection plate off the right hand side and have a look see as to what is or is not moving when you move the controls

The position/draft was an improvement done to also make it so the 3 point was different then the Ferguson 3 point so as to stop the law suit

You may need to change oil again if it had thick gunk after a period of use. But,besides what old has said,I would make sure the main lift lever is not slipping. As I recall, there is a friction disc that can slip where the lever bolts to the shaft.Your draft lever stays vertical, except when plowing, then you put it horizontal.Mark

After looking into the effectiveness of the friction disc I discovered that there is a lot of play in the shaft that the control lever attaches to. I took the lever, key and friction disc off and turned the shaft until it seemed to drop into a slot. I temporarily put the key and lever back on and it works. Does anybody know what holds the tension hydraulic lever's shaft in place so that it it can't move in and out?
