Need ideas for children's activity board

I have been recruited to make something similar to this for a 3 year old boy.
I have a lot of odds and ends around here to put something together but would like some more ideas if you can come up with any.

Throttle and Steering Wheel.

Large nut fastened to the board and bolt to screw in it. I'm thinking 3/4 or 7/8 maybe 4-5 inches long.

When I was about 3 or so, my dad brought home an old steering wheel, column, and steering gear, still assembled. I stood it up against a low tree limb, climbed up there and was "king of the highway" for countless hours!

Funny how I can still remember that!

And a "shifter" close by! Should be pretty simple to do a 1-2-3-R "H" pattern or something similar.
