Funny story...

I posted on here a couple of years ago about a fawn following my pup in the house and help him eat his dogfood. Deer and dog grew up and still play play together outside. Every evening, the deer follows dog in and they share a meal out of his bowl. I believe deer thinks it's a dog.

Anyway, a few days ago, the neighbor stops by to talk. Deer comes running off the hill to check him out. He jumps back a says 'What the heck?'. I tell him the story about the deer following dog in the house.

He then asks me...."How do you keep her out of your garden?" I told him that I instructed her to stay out of the garden. He said "Okay, but what about the reast of the deer?".

I told him that I told her to tell the rest of the deer to stay out of my garden. He said "Oh, Okay, that makes sense".

I'm still stunned.

Another deer dog story. A farmer I know near Aberdeen (Stratford), SD found a fawn and brought it home and bottle fed it. It quickly made friends with their dog. When the farmer went to check fields the dog and deer would jump in the back of the pickup. When the UPS truck drove down the road the dog and deer would chase after it. The deer was never confined and as it reached maturity left for the winter. It came back to the farm yard for several years for an occasional treat with its fawn but never let the farmer get very close to the fawn.
