OT - Kawasaki Lawnmower engine parts source

My ZTR came with a 23HP Kawasaki Engine. FH680V
It's a commercial unit and was used by a lawn service company
before I bought it used. The engine is very tired now and I want
to rebuild it. By very tired, I mean still running but burning oil
and getting difficult to start. Anyone have a good parts source?
I can find the parts on eBay but don't know the sellers.

I re-powered it with a 25HP Briggs for now but that engine just
doesn't cut it. (pun intended) All the Kawi parts are going to the
machine shop tomorrow to be checked out before I spend any
money on it. I know a lot of you guys have worked on these.
No bearings, everything runs in the casings. So if the casings are
bad I won't bother but if they're good I'd like to get it back in there.

Pat's Small Engine. I have 3 mowers with Kawasaki's on them and this place has the best price on rebuild kits.

The crank bearings/bushings are replaceable. I rebuilt a 25hp 2 years ago and replaced them (not easy). About $12 each. The crank shaft was shot in mine but the block was good with 420 hours.

Wow Scott, if my crank looked like that I might just bail!
Especially with the hours being that low.
The hour meter on mine didn't work when I bought it.
I think it quit at something over 4000 hours though.
I have no way of knowing if this is the original engine either.
The internals all look good to the naked eye except one valve.
That's what I pay my machinist for, he keeps me on the right track.

It cost me about $600 to rebuild. That was new everything except cam and heads. The crank bushings for the FH680D :

Yeah, it won't be cheap. But $600 is 1/3 the cost of a new Kawi
replacement engine so if feasible it seems to be the better choice.

This isn't a fix by any means, but I don't
know how often you use it. Have you tried
running 15W-40 through it once to see how
the usage goes or how about a bottle of
lucas? I was surprised at how Rotella
changed the usage in a few of ours.

oliverguy, yes, I've tried running heavier oil, but it's time.
It's not just the oil burning, it was getting very hard to start.

Thanks to everyone for the recommendations. I'll check them out.
Here's a picture of the heads. They kind of tell a story.

One issue to be aware of with these engines is the valve guides have a tendency to move out and interfere with the rocker arm. If they move, the seal on top of the guide usually gets destroyed.

Thanks Scott, I'll take all the advice I can get!
This isn't my first rebuild. Cars, trucks, tractors, motorcycles,
other lawnmower engines. But it is the first Kawasaki in this style.

Oh yeah, forget the rotella. For what it's worth, for this place this is how the gas twin cylinder engine durations go for me from best to worst: 1.
Liquid cooled Kawasaki, 2. Fuel injected kohlers, 3. Air cooled Kawasaki, 4. Regular kohlers. I'm running a few big Briggs, but don't know yet.
I'll get 4,000hours sometimes on a liquid cooled Kawasaki. Have to change the water pump regularly though. I've ran some diesels and love
Kubota's, but honestly no more for me. They just don't last any longer than the top 2 gassers. I had the best diesel luck with a daihatsu in a
toro actually. Sorry, my 10 cents.
