Have this old tractor with a Rockwell PS 251 HX 12 steerable rearend. There is a big rubber seal that can be seen that holds the oil into the rearend. The seal is damaged and lets oil our of the rear end. How big of a job is it to repair this??? Tire off probably Planateries sp. Thanks for any help....

Sounds like the various components you would need to remove could be quite heavy. You will probably want an engine hoist or similar.

If it's the wiper seal on the knuckle, you can remove the bolts holding the knuckle to the housing and pull the whole thing out. Then remove the bolts holding the two wiper retainers and pull the seal out. Some trucks have a seal inside that keeps oil in the center housing, and the steering knuckles are packed with grease.

My '69 Chevy K20 has the same wiper-seal setup on the front axle. The manual calls for GL90 but I use chassis lube as it was hard to keep the knuckles from leaking with 90 Wt. 8)
