Way OT...red headed neighbor kid..

All,

If you've been a longtime YT follower you may understand why I post this. For those that do not, well there's a kid (less than 28 years old)that has frequented my place. We had established a friendship that he seemed to enjoy; cars, motorized equipment, daily items, and a lot of things that a young buck thinks of.

He stopped by out of the blue and rang the doorbell, which is uncommon in therse parts.

I was glad to postpone what I had planned, partly. After a good bit of time, his new girlfriend had priority over what I had to say...where is his mind??

I like him to swing in, I like that he is employed, I like that he's doing his best to get himself a decent place.

I kinda missed him for a year or so. Kinda like a drifting cat that is welcome.

I mean this in the sincerest sense, I had to see if I could offer advise, but he seemed to want a good shoot-the-breeze instead.

Giving of one's time and psychology to lift a person so they can lift themselves is Very honorable. I tham=nk you and you grow in my esteem as a result. Jim

Glad to hear it. I would have thought him to be around 20 now.
I thought him to be about 15 or 16 when you started talking about him. Unless it is much longer than I remember when!

I believe you did well with the guidance you gave that boy. It is great that he stopped to shoot the bull. Hopefully his girlfriend will be a keeper, sure sounds like he deserves it.

IA roy,

I try to not be specific too much. I am unsure of what I say may cause him trouble in the future.

Your memory is nearly on the spot.

"Kid" should have a lot of room. Please understand.

Glad to hear that, Dennis--I also enjoyed your stories of the two of you doing things together. Time spent teaching something useful to someone who wants to learn is never wasted--even if they never get a chance to use the skills directly, the fact that they know them can help in many other ways.

I've only read few of your posts about him. For some reason I thought the "kid" was 12-13 years old.

I recall the stories when he first showed up. The world might be better off if more kids spent time puttering about with old men. Say that give's me an idea. I know a couple of real live wires not far from James Howell. What do ya'll think of dropping them off in front of his house at the crack of dawn every morning during school vacation? I heard when Nancy is busy putting up hay James run's out of anything to do other than nap by mid-morning. If the kids started picking up bad habits I suppose they could hang out with Nancy instead.

Going back 45 years I was that red headed kid. It started with me working for him occasionally. Which turned into a friendship that I still cherish and miss. He's passed. He shared his life history and we did stuff together.
