Onan generator problem Billy Shafer

Old onan cck 5000 battery and generator head is the starter. won't turn over very good or make power. Will start on the pull rope and make power if starter button is pushed in but not for long. What is it the starter plates? Thanks Billy and all others.

Remove the band on the gensection. The brushes on the left closer to the engine. Are the start brushes. Make sure they are all free in the guides. Making good contact with the slip rings. The rings should be clean.You can clean them with a scrub pad,stone or some contact cleaner. No sandaper.

If you will email me the model and serial number. I can get you a print and service manual number. The manual will have all the test you will need to check things out.

Forgot to add. All brushes should be free and making good contact.
