After having read several hundred posts, I have to say I'm flabbergasted at the wealth of knowledge and experience on this site. What I am looking for is opinions. I have an 1850 with a blown engine (gas) and I would like to make the tractor live again. I dont have the $$$ for a cummins and I dont have enough work for it anyway. Would you take a 1800 LP engine, convert it to gasoline or keep looking for a gas 310?

Depends on what you want to do with it. Just to make a running chore tractor out of it? Sure, take what you can get. You might be a long time finding a 310.

My Dad has two 354 engine blocks and a running 372 but I have read about the issues with putting those in a gas tub. I don't think I want to tackle that. My mechanical abilities are limited and my shop doesn't exist...

If I had more time and money, (who doesn't want that?) I would repower with the perkins or cummins. Dad has a 1988 300 HP engine in his 1954 3T bulldozer and a 414 IH in his 806, but he spent a lot of time on it.

Really? I have the head from the 310 that flew apart. Would that be better? I know J. Schwiebert has said some will fit some won't. That is partly why I don't take the 283 block and build a 310. The other part is $$$$
