To 30 starting trouble

So the TO30 has been starting up fine, but today I went to start it and the starter switch stud started smoking with just a little cranking. This is the stud that goes directly up to the battery. Also has a wire from this stud to the voltage regulator. Any idea what would cause this? Cranked very very slow. New battery, 6 volt positive ground, thanks.

You've got a loose or corroded connection at the stud, or the starter contacts are burned, corroded, or worn away to the point they are not fully seating.

Just check the area that was smoking, should be a simple easy fix.

Steve thanks for your advise, I let it cool off and the starter started spinning normal. Started just fine, like normal. Wire from stud to voltage regulator has isulation missing and may have been touching the stering Collum grounding out. I moved that away, then started fine.
I need to replace all wires in the spring. I just cleaned that stud very good last month along with the battery.
The switch I think has been giving problems and a new one is in order.
Anything else?? Thanks
