Days are longer after today

Shortest day of the year is today. That means more daylight each day thus we ought to be out getting a bit done each day instead of loafing around on here!! LOL

Merry Christmas all, I hope you all have a good one. All of my children will be here Christmas day and I get nothing else that's enough to make mine special.

Sunrise will keep getting later every morning until about the second week of January though. Sunset will be later.

Yea, happy Winter everybody! (Even though we've already had a bunch of the white stuff)
The shortest day (usually) is the 21st of December and the longest day of the year (usually) is June 21, my birthday.
Although we shouldn't get too happy just yet. After this, the days get longer by only a few seconds per day, at least for a little while when it accelerates to minutes per day in a few months.

Merry Christmas to you too. My little girl should be coming home today. We are going to cut a tree in the backyard.Last year we dug one up and put it back.It grew some this year.We planted many little seedlings when she was young. This year we are going to cut one of the bigger ones and bring it in the house.I hope to post pictures of the event, she will be here to show me how to get posting again!

Merry Christmas to all. I agree Butch, my children being here is the best part. Have some 'outlaws' showing up too. Oh well.

I work a 10 HR day before overtime at the salt mine. Add in a lunch and a 1 hr commute each way and I get to see the daylight come and go.

I tell my Wife - I celebrate Dec 22nd as more daylight comes everyday. Looking forward to it! June 21st - the longest daylight day of the year, I try to do something that takes me until the last glimpse of light is gone.

In my world, Summer starts tomorrow - more daylight everyday!

Merry Christmas!

Bill

Or as my great uncle put it, "When the days begin to lengthen, the winter begins to strengthen".

The winter solstice is one of my most favorite days of the year.

Though the longest day of the year, I find the summer solstice a bit depressing.

Actually, the day is still 24 hours long I think ..... ha! Momma and I got hitched 48 years ago today, we used to laugh and tell everyone we planned it on purpose since it's the longest night of the year. Didn't own a vehicle back in those days, can you imagine anyone getting married these days without a car or truck (or SUV)? All I really remember is how cold it was.

Here's some interesting trivia for anyone who cares: In some areas (such as mine in southern Minnesota and maybe everywhere else), sunsets started getting later a week ago. My sunset went from 4:37 p.m. to 4:38 p.m. on Dec. 14 after about a week stuck at 4:37. Although total daylight kept getting shorter until the solstice, more afternoon light is what I look forward to. A Google search for "sunrise sunset table" will take you to sites to find out when afternoon light started getting longer in your exact location.

Earliest sunset here in Michigan happens around Dec 5th or so I believe. Holds steady until the first day of winter m/l.

Congrats Mrs. And Mr. Crazy. The question is do you have a car or truck now? When my wife and I got married [over [60 years ago] we did not have anything at all much less a car and I am happy to report that things have not gotten any worse now. Enjoy each other and happy holidays.

Haha but obviously "day" in this
conversation is meant as day vs night or
daylight vs darkness, not "day" as in 24
hours.

I learned something yesterday. The local news meteorologist explained just why Dec 21 was the turnaround day on last night's news cast.
