Best Primer/Paint

I know this is a very basic question, and one that has most certainly been answered several times in this forum, but...
What is the very best primer / paint brand to use? We are planning to use a 20 fl. oz. HVLP Gravity Feed Air Spray Gun - Central Pneumatic (Harbor Freight). We are working on a 52 8N.
Thanks,
jc

The stuff I use is from a company called Akzo Nobel, very high quality paint. Fuel and chemical resistant, the paint lasts longer than typical automotive or farm paint easily.

Can't say rustolum primer for rust is the best, but that's what I put on my rusty metal like mower decks, before I paint. Never had an issue with it coming off.

Don't think any thing will hold up in a dump trailer where things are rubbing against it. I have used it to primer my rusty Jubilee, terramites and Farmall C with. Paints has never fallen off.

That sounds good...Is the brand Akzo Nobel or does it go by another brand name? What retailers sell it?
Thanks!

I tried to use a gun like once, they're great until you try to paint the underside of the tractor, then the paint will try to run out of the cup and all you will be spraying is air. Went back to a pressure pot for the underside and main body. Used the HVLP on the tins.

Find a PPG dealer, they have a metal cleaner, then a metal prep, then epoxy primer, then top coat, I use single stage Urethane, but the fumes are toxic and you need proper safety gear for that. They also have enamels that are more user friendly.

Akzo Nobel is the company name and you would need to look up a local seller. They are all over North America so not hard to locate one. The stuff I use from them is made for painting aircraft and is either high build or thin base primer depending on the condition of the metal.

Immaculate surface prep and a good epoxy primer makes up most of a good paint job. The best paint in the world won't cover up poor prep work.

As fixxeruper said you prep is very important. Use a good hi build epoxy primer or if you have a lot of bare metal use and etching primer. And you color paint varies too.
urethane, enamel urethane, base coat clear coat.
Here are a couple sites I've used. http://www.tcpglobal.com/

If you use epoxy primer research the metal prep you use. Epoxy and some metal preps are not comparable.

Google PHOSPHORIC ACID/ PREP FOR PRIMER

or

Metal prep and epoxy primer

Valspar is a good Oil base Enamel paint. I has a hardener additive that will make it dry faster and give it a better gloss.
