OT--Cell phone question

Sometimes I receive a missed call message on my cell and it doesn't ring and there is no message.
I always have my phone ready and check it frequently. Most are suspicious in that they are out of state.
If this is something scammers have come up with, I don't see the purpose.

I get calls all the time from numbers not in my phone. Record 5 in one day. I
never answer them. They don't leave a message. Try to ring the back and get a
message they won't answer my calls either.

I was getting calls form New York and DC. I figured they were calling me for a
cabinet appointment. I didn't answer them either.

I have received a few calls from a numbers I won't answer. Peculiar thing is, it only rings once?????? Whats the point??? gobble

Telemarketers, they have computers that call who knows how many numbers constantly. When someone answers
and the person is busy the computer hangs up on all the numbers currently on call, so if it just called
you but but someone else answers it hangs up on you and starts over. This can happen so fast that the
call was completed but hung up on before it rings. It happens to me some too.

Jon got most of it. But they can tell if
it's answered a answer machine or no answer
some will leave a message. You have to
understand we are talking computers or
automated rigs here.

Mine does that sometimes. I dont worry to much about it.I figure if its that important they will call back.. I think
if you happen to be texting at the time someone calls it goes straight to voice mail .

(quoted from post at 02:12:52 12/14/16) [b:1bc63e87a4]GOOGLE[/b:1bc63e87a4] the number.
I do just that every time I get a suspicious phone call. If I verify, through Google, that it is scam, I file a complaint with DNC.
Don't know if it does any good or not but I always report them.
I also block the number on my phone.

Mine does that. It was explained to me that if I have low enough reception it will register as a missed call instead of ringing. If the caller just hangs up there wouldn't be a message. It's also difficult to tell where a call is from anymore. I'm in the Dallas area and I got a call from Dallas from a New York number. People are taking their numbers with them when they move.

With the way modern electronics and switching work, if someone misdials and hangs up it can show as a missed call, or even ring one but no one is on the other end.

(quoted from post at 03:39:04 12/14/16) [b:304ee5cb08]Just how can I google a number?[/b:304ee5cb08] I put the number in the box and no response.
I simply type the entire number (without dashes) into search box and if it is a bad number you will see where other people have voiced a complaint----"Did you get a call from this number?"

Jiles blocking them will do little good as rarely do they call from same number. DNC is a joke no real policing involved in it a paper tiger.

Any time I get a call I am not sure about, I answer and immediately hang up. That way their "machine or person" can't leave a message or know it's a good number.
If the same number immediately calls back, I have found it is legitimate.
Like someone else stated, some out of state numbers are actually local because they moved from that state. That sometimes make it hard to decide.
