Got one nasty kick today

Had to AI (artificially breed) a heifer this afternoon. Had the pen full caught in the self lock feeders. I walked in front of them all than behind them so they all knew I was there. When I walked behind one about 900 lbs she just drove me. I had a folded pocket knife in my pocket and her foot hit it square on and drove the side of that against my leg making even worse. Hurt so bad at first I thought I was going to get sick to my stomach. I'm getting too old for this somedays lol

She just wanted to shake hands.....good thing her aim was off a bit, or you would be singing soprano. Hope you feel better soon, pretty hard to milk cows gimped up. BTDT. Ben

Ya I'll live I remember a neighbor got nailed in a different spot years back and he had to go to emerge. He was off work almost a week.

I sold out in 2014 for that very reason......and beef was at a good price....first time for that. Usually//////////always the other way around.

I bought a Priefert squeeze about five years ago and haven't been kicked in that long by cows or soon- to- be steers. That's one of the best investments i ever made....

Gotta call you on that one, Bruce- I remember some Jerseys tap-dancing all over me back in the day. And those little hooves are SHARP!

My Dad said they had a couple jerseys when he was a kid and they were pretty cute, would wait for the perfect timing and nail you in the hurt like the dickens spot every time:

Be thankful, friend got hoof print in side of his head, milking. You can still see it if you know how/where to look.

That's for sure,I am very thankful it was only that just the older I get it bothers me more at the time doesn't hurt too bad this morning

The only time I was ever knocked unconscious was when one kicked me in the side of the leg. She didn't even get me with her foot. She got me with the back of her knee. Somehow it went right between the muscles and hit a nerve.

Been horse kicked several times. It gives you something that will last a while. Never been kicked hard by a cow. I got stepped on a bunch when hand milking years ago. The pail got kicked over a few times but nothing to see the next day though. Animals with hooves can do a number on a person.

Back when I was a boy, about ten. One got me right in the bread basket. Some days I still think it hurts. Lucky at least one side still worked as I did have two beautiful girls.

My "horseshoer" guy called the other day. Said a horse had kicked him in the knee and it would be a couple of months before he would be able to start shoeing again. Be careful. They can hurt you.

about 1950 my uncle got kikt in the head by a mule ,,. went to bed and went into a coma ,, died 4 days later ,,. he was 27

I remember one cow we had years ago had a spite for me,she would wait and not move a muscle untill I was right where she wanted me and crack me right square in the face send me flying on my rear bloody nosed and all. She did it twice only to me and Dad got rid of her.

Two years ago, had a steer that I was loading (he was a notoriously ill-tempered), and he got me high side on the femur/groin/hip area. For a minute i did not know if I had been converted to a eunuch or not. Or if my leg was broke. Luckily, all was well. His leg was longer than I had thought.

I got a bruise out of it - and I dont bruise, ever. Hit me with a pipe, and I wont bruise - that steer got me real good.

My butcher almost lost his teeth to a cow - he is still not sure how she got a hoof up that high.

Glad you survived - animals are unpredictable!

(quoted from post at 19:05:45 12/12/16) May be you should just switch over to Jerseys ,they can't kick much harder than a Tom Cat.
I'll be chuckling over that for the next few days.

I always got volunteered to take bandages of the feet afterthe hoof trimmer came the week before. some cows were just plain mean. I always made sure to be in contact with the leg just so if they did kick, it was more like being thrown instead of getting kicked after they wound up a bit.
