was given this old grinder mixer in a trade and would like to use it to grind and mix a wheat based ration for pigs and poultry. freed up hammer mill today and ground hay and shavings through to clean it up. the chain driven mixing portion doesnt work as the gearbox under the mixing tub is frozen pretty tight, \thinking its the vertical shaft attached to the mixing auger. cover was off the gear box not sure if it used to be filled with oil or what. any advice on how to free it and lube it once its free. also where to find a manual and what rpm to run my tractor. also hammers are worn on one corner if i can get this thing working how do you turn them? thanks for your help

It is kind of a silly gearbox, you can't check or add oil to it while it is on the mill. If the gearbox is that froze
up it needs off and all new bearings and check the gears, and yes fill with gear lube. Manual can probably find online,
as far as rpms run it at 540 while grinding and can do less while unloading. On to the hammers, there is a hole that
the rod they are on will slide out of, should be a pin in the end of the rods to take out, you can turn the hammers
four times as long as you don't let them wear down to much. I hope I covered most of it, also if you need a gearbox
from a junk mill, the early 65 had the same gearbox, the later 65s had bigger shafts, they were known to break on the
55 and early 65s.

Thanks that is all very helpful. I live down in tx and there aren't a lot of these around to scavenge parts from where should I look for bearings the gears look allbright. From what I can tell water got in the top and rusted the top bearing. To pull off the box I guess you take out the side mounted shafts and then it drops off?

It is bolted to the bottom of the tank, the shaft from the mixing auger goes in the top of it and will be a bugger
getting it down (sliding off the mixing auger shaft) after you unbolt it, of course will have to disconnect the input
shaft and the shaft going to the unloading auger (I am hoping I didn't have to tell you that but some folks, you just
never know, LOL) If remember correctly should be 4 bolts bolting it to the bottom. If you can't find a manual I looked
and we have 2 here for 65s, one is for the older and the other for a newer one, it is my dads so I can't give or sell
it to you, but I can copy the pages and email it to you.

Would be great to have at least the pages that go along with the gearbox to get part numbers. The bolt on flange that holds the unloading driveshaft and bearing is cracked in half. And a u joint on the transmission drive is out. Will try taking the gear box off with a big bearing puller later its soaking in sok right now. Sounds like you have some experience Witt these would you recommend replacing the gearbox or would you scrap it and move on? Wondering if there is anything else I should check now that would be likely to be out.
Thanks again

Here is a pdf. for the 50mx service manual, note I only have a operators manual so it does not give parts numbers.
Finding that will be as easy as finding the gearbox. I can find them around here, I don't know about where you are, you
said Texas? As far as junking it, the question would be if it sat out in the rain and rotted up then I would be hard
pressed to continue with it. A feed mill needs inside or they are no good at all, all the feed in the nooks and
crannies getting wet will eat it fast. If the tank is good and the augers are good then I would say continue with it.
If you need help finding parts my number is 608-412-35six zero. I am in the SW corner of Wisconsin, getting a little
chilly around here, forecast of 15 degrees to 12 below for the next week so I hope you don't need things from me fast,
I have cattle to take care of and doing it solo.
