oliver 77 clutch rebuild question?

Have a 1951 oliver 77 that i sure by now in need of a clutch rebuild. So far ive removed
Hood side pulley and sheet metal etc. My question is can man remove the clutch housing without having to take radiator off and moving engine? Can u unbolt rear pto shaft a pull out then roll housing up through middle of tractor? Any thoughts?

you have to pull the pto out enough to get the clutch housing to come out, and to get clearance to slide the housing past the fiy wheel and clutch assembly you have to take the belt pulley gear case off to.

Wes, I also have a 1951 Oliver 77 with the belt pulley. Before I bought it the clutch was replaced and I remember stopping by and they had pulled the engine. I checked my book and states the most efficient way to change the clutch is to pull the engine and radiator.

Don't know about a 77 but I did the clutch on my 60 without pulling the radiator or engine - I did have to unbolt the engine and move it forward a wee bit, though. 8)

Wes, you can get the bell housing out without moving the engine. It is best to remove the gas tank for more room to work. I think you can get it out without removing the pulley housing, but I'm not sure about that. Good luck, Chuck

Come on here guys we used to do them all the time out at the farmers buildings! I sent you an e-mail. Let me know if you receive it or not. J.

I have changed them without removing the belt pulley gear box by taking off he fan, taking out the motor mount bolts and sliding the motor ahead and around at an angle.
