Winter is here

Put in the first bottle of anti-gel today. I think this is about as late as I can remember for the first one. Hopefully it will be warm and I won't need too many this year. I usually only use them if there is the potential for temps to go below zero, but start the first one a little before and double the dose just to get things good for the year.

Here too in northern Mi. Filled my old diesel tractor yesterday and added a couple gallons of gas to it.

yep. Supposed to get down to 29 for the first freeze in Austin. Probably be 24 - 25 out where I live and the third freeze. Definitely winter.

You haven't seen the forecast for up around home then, have you? :)

My tractors will gel at about 15 degrees or so. Surprised you can get to near zero, but you are probably using fuel that is slightly winterized from the pumps by now?

I put some anti gel in, but didn't run the one tractor yet, my bale getter. I'll have to plug it in a little longer and let it idle for a while in the shed. Wind takes the heat away from the fuel system, and boy have we had wind around here.

We just got hit, the next week will have highs in the low 30's and lows in the teens. Because the garage wasn't cold enough already.

It is even getting cold here in SE MS, the low tonight is 31 and tomorrow nite is 28. But is is showing the lows back up into the 40's and 50's next week.

Fuel is mixed for winter in most cases. But these newer diesels with common rail injection are less prone to gelling because they flow an enormous amount of fuel and it gets very warm, plus my truck has a fuel heater hooked to the cooling system. So if I can get the motor running and warm there is virtually no geling risk. I only need it to get started in the morning and to keep my bunk heater from gelling, those lines are the size of an ink pen tube.

We ended up with about a foot up here. You're right about the wind. Non-stop 20-30mph for 3 days, now. High of 0 tomorrow! Might get some fishing in soon.
