The post about profanity prompted me to post this. Back in the day when my son was a teenager, many of his friends would hang out at our place and some of them had bad potty mouth. My wife, then a school admin. wouldn't tolerate profanity, especially the "f" word. She put a pint jar on the kitchen table and each offender paid 50 cents or was told to leave and not to come back. Some left and didn't come back but most cleaned up their language in no time at all.

My mother has had an "F" jar for as long as I can remember.
It works.
I was a sailor for over 12 years. I could cuss like one.
I don't. Part of that is due to parental guidance.

When I was growing up a "Cuss" jar would have been as empty as a water bucket with a hole in it..Mother would not tolerate bad language,, she always said there were many other words that were more colorful to use...

OK, while I don't think people should be tossing the F bomb every other word it doesn't in fact by definition and law fall under free speech as laid out in the 1st amendment under the US constitution.

Now here is the part that really bothers me. Most of the members of this and other boards I post to constantly claim to me true Americans and very concerned about "your" rights. But you are very content to deny those same rights to others because it offends you! Not being offended is not a protected right.

Maybe we should think about this a little. The politically correct movement has us voluntarily relinquishing those very rights! We should not give up any rights! We give up one and they will start working on others!

My house my rules. These people place a swear jar in their own house. No one is mentioning making a law to prohibit foul language. Swear all you want, but in my house put a cork in it!

Your 1st amendment rights don't give you the right to do whatever you want wherever you want.

Up until 6 years ago my wife and I
could cuss the paint off the wall.
Couldn't talk without cursing. When
our marriage hit a bump in the road
and nearly ended we met with a
preacher up town. (my wife cussed
him in his church office). We
started attending church. 3 weeks
later we were saved. Not a cuss word
since. Marriage is better than ever.

Many years ago, I had a close friend that could not make a sentence without cursing.
We rode trail bikes mainly on Sunday after my father in law and I got out of Church.
He would wait or meet us somewhere.
My FIL kept encouraging him to join us at Church, and finally he did.
Within a few weeks, he was saved and turned his life around.
He quit his Pipefitter job and became a preacher and still preaches today.
Quite an influence my FIL had with him!

Boy, you guys would have fun with me! I will not attend church except for a wedding or funeral. And then only because of the family! No sir, I am indeed Christian. I just don't believe that the "church" is doing anything except trying to get their hands in my pockets!

Kitchen firewood was split small enough to fit the kitchen cook stove. I could carry an armload before I started grade school. Even though it was small pieces, it hurt like the dickens when Mom would flog one of us for cussing. Head and shoulders flogging. And if we got an inkling that she was after us, and attempted to make a getaway, we found that she had a pretty good throwing arm. It didn't really break me from cussing, but it broke me from cussing within earshot of Mom. I have, over time, matured and cleaned up my language, but I can still turn the air blue if I mash a thumb, although I'm careful if someone else is within earshot. I'm not proud of it. It's a mental weakness, and I'm ashamed if my family hears me. Clean language is not political correctness - it's respect for others around you.

In all of these posts, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the recent political rallies.

Oldtanker, You and I feel about the same way about the Church. It was not this way many years ago.
