Slightly tasteless email

I just got this from Smokey Mountain Rewards in an email. You'd have thought they might have rethought this one before they sent it out given the recent events in Gatlinburg. Don't know whether to laugh or cry.

"New Year's Eve in Gatlinburg
29th Annual New Year's Eve Ball Drop and Fireworks Show."

RR: And I thought you were complaining about the picture of a John Deere I sent you!!! More seriously (and having been through bad fire seasons) I do feel for the people in that mess.

Church group goes down there the end of nov every year. They called and asked if they should go down. They were told yes most certainly. They went and helped comfort others and helped anyway they could. They were asked to come back soon.

I got married there the day after Christmas last year and the chapel burned in the fire. Wonder if it's a sign from above? Lol anyway last year it was 82 down there at Christmas and we had a fun time.

As you know Dolly Parton does a lot for that area. She has started "My People Fund" to give people who lost their primary residence $1000 a month for up to 6 months to help them out.
My People Fund

Tasteless is the political cartoonist that inferred that the fire was because we ignored the global worming problem!!!

Now i have heard but i do not know for sure, Dollys original home place cabin had been moved to dollywood and they built a replica several years ago in its place and it got burnt down. I havent heard from my friend much this week. I just texted him and ask if his places survived the fire and he texted back later that day and just said lost 2 and 10 bedroom and a 4 bedroom.

Go on Utube and view the twerp who mouthed off about that town. He no longer woks for a tire chain of stores. He rEALLY looked like a sack off hammers.

Actually the local people have encouraged tourist to please resume normal activities. Tourism is how they make their living. These people want to help themselves but they can't if they are out of work.

These folks are Tennesseans. This is rural conservative American where people take care of each other and help themselves.

If you have reservations, please don't cancel them. If you don't have reservations and want to go, please make your reservations.

I cant see why they would not advertise something that's has been happening for years. yea it is heart breaking to see all the damage. but life goes on downtown Gatlinburg didn't burn. they have to make money some where. you have any idea how much money that one event brings in?

They definitely need the business this year and as grim as it may sound the burned out areas will probably become a tourist attraction on its own. When Hurricane Camille came thru and tore up
Nelson,Amherst and Albemarle county VA and kill over 200 folks, people came from miles around to see the damage.

It just made me cringe a little when I saw that they were having fireworks. I guess it's rained though hasn't it? Not so much fire danger from falling debris.

Just because they say they're going to have fireworks does not mean that they will have fireworks. Obviously, if conditions are not conducive to fireworks, they will not have fireworks.

I just don't see how this is at all tasteless. By the time New Years rolls around people are going to be in desperate need of a diversion. They'll be working hard to recover from the fire, and deserve a night off.

Like I said, when I saw "Fireworks" in Gatlinburg,it just triggered a little cringe. Maybe just inviting everybody to Gatlinburg for a New Years Eve celebration would have been a better way to put it,that's all. Not asking for political correctness,it was just too soon for fire and Gatlinburg in the same sentence.
