The old gasket always sticks to the part you are keeping, not to the part you are replacing.

That's why I like a trace of silicone sealer on many gaskets. You can peel them right off many times being able to reuse them.

Has anyone used the flat scraper blade on an oscillating tool to scrape off stuck gasket material? I haven't tried it, but it should work if a person has a steady hand.

You're lucky. If it sticks to the part you're replacing you'd have to buy or make a new gasket if you can't get it off in one piece.

Sticks to the part up in back of behind, where you can't see whether you got it scraped off or not.
