Had to report another diver today

Was on a busy highway this afternoon following a car. I could see just ahead there was a school bus with its Amber lights on so I started to slow down the car ahead did not. Than the sign flipped out and the flashing red lights came on and the driver ahead sped right along and drove right past the stopped bus we were meeting with flashing red lights on! When the bus proceeded again the driver was looking at me with his hands up in the air obviously upset at what I just saw. As the traffic thickened and sowed down I was right behind the car got the plate and reported them. I'm no where even close to a perfect driver but those are our kids out there and you don't do things like that!

If the person was driving like that you had no choice, You did the right thing if they are not brought in check now they will most likely kill someone some day, Worst of all is that most likely they dont think they did anything wrong. I drive around all day as part of my job and cant believe how many people dont know or care about the laws anymore

Just before I retired I was following a school bus in Michigan on a two lane highway. The bus came to stop with lights on and could hear bus driver blowing horn and saw him motion to kid to stay put just in front of bus just as car from other direction blew the bus lights coming to stop along side me.The guy was on the phone and looked at me and just shook head. If it wasn't for bus drivers quick thinking two little kid could have been injuryied or even worse.

You ain't kidding, as if laws are just suggestions now. If I am driving slower than 5 over around here, passing on double yellow is apparently ok. Probably get passed on a double yellow every day at least once. Worst place is through at little village I have to go through on my way to work. 25 MPH double yellow through it, I am usually between 25 and 28 mph, but will have people that are probably late for work go right around me probably at 35 mph+. They probably are the same people that I saw do the same thing as the OP passing a school bus with sign out and red lights on.

That happens a lot here too,it scares the heck out of me when they pass on a 2 lane highway going up a hill they have no idea if somethings coming but they do it anyhow

I have noticed recently that in some towns kids wait by the right fender of the bus until the driver is satisfied that everyone is going to stop and then lets the kids cross.

Here in PA, that violation will get you 30 days suspension of your driving privileges.
And, it seems that there are no speed laws anymore. When I go onto the interstate, I can be doing 80 or better, and some clown will be tailgating me and flashing his lights to pass. Not that I drive 80 after all, but just figuratively speaking.
Just today, returning from an errand, some clown tried to occupy the same space as I was in. Never looked, just started coming into my lane as I was right next to him in traffic. As I moved over onto the left shoulder (I had been almost past him while passing him) to avoid collision, I got on the horn. I think I need a locomotive horn to wake up some of these clowns.

I drove school bus when I was in college. We had a lot of close calls and one bus got hit about 1/2 head on. The car driver was killed but everyone in the bus was OK. Totaled the bus. I came so close to a head on that I couldn't breath for a second or two. I had a very full load and was going on the highway around a curve to the left. A car guessed that I was going straight to the bus garage on a side road. He ran the stop sign just feet in front of the bus. No time to react, just watched it happen. I was stopped one time with lights flashing and stop sign out and a car passed me on the right. I had the door open and the kid was on the bottom step. That one still haunts me. People will do anything to get around a bus. They are scared to death that they might have to stop for a minute. School bus drivers haul our most valuable possessions and deserve our cooperation and respect.

I would report that too. I have also reported trucks for following too close to cars, I will usually warn them on the cb, but if the get smart about it I just send a dash cam video to the company.

I had the same situation. I was on a trip coming back at about 10 at night. I was going west at 18th and Broadway in Kansas City - you don't forget the intersection. I was coming up to a green light and a woman in an SUV turned left in front of the bus. I remember my headlights reflected off of a ring on her right hand - she was on the phone. That's the only time I ever locked up the duals on a loaded bus. Luckily I was able to scream at the passengers a second before hand so no one was caught completely off guard. I had to pull over for a few minutes because my legs and arms were numb!

Similar situation a few years ago. I was following a school bus in my neighborhood and knew where he stopped and what kids got off the bus and where they lived. The bus stopped ,turned on his lights and put out the stop sign. I saw a jacked up pickup coming up behind us and move over to pass. I pulled over to block him and he just managed to stop before he hit me. Just at that moment 5 or 6 kids walked out from in front of the bus to cross the street. I knew the kid driving and his dad. After I told his dad, his dad sold the truck.

Philip, you most absolutely did the right thing. My wife is a bus driver now for 30 years and this has happened to her way too many times. Worst one was when she was on a state highway the kid lived on, she was at a dead stop, sign out, kid is coming up the aisle to get off when she checks mirrors, she sees the driver behind her is not gonna get stopped, the driver passes her on the RIGHT side of the bus and does not get stopped until she is well past the bus. My wife grabbed the kids coat right before he was ready to step off which would have been right in front of the car, probably saved his life. The crap bus drivers have to put up with, it's coming to a point ain't nobody gonna do it.

For Christmas I told my wife I wanted a dash camera. I have had three instances in the last year of people running stop signs and nearly causing wrecks. In an instance like you just described you can call the cops and report a driver but usually all thye can do is pull the driver over and "ask" them about the violation. If they say "I didn't do nuthin" there is pretty much nothing an officer can do - he can't write a ticket on your say so. A video of said car is pretty indisputable.

Dash cameras are getting extremely cheap:

At $20 everyone should have one.

I know of a school corp that has cameras on busses so cops can hand out tickets. If I report it, cop will say I didn't see it, nothing I can do.

I think it only a matter of time before all cars will have dash cams and black boxes. Save cops and courts a lot of time. Might put lawyers out of a job.

I totally agree with you, School bus drivers haul our most valuable possessions and deserve our cooperation and respect.

So why aren't there dash cams on all busses? School corporations must not think the kids are valuable possessions and deserve protection.

"A video of said car is pretty indisputable". Then why is not a video of a cop murdering a handcuffed black man??????

I could explain that to you but by the way you formed your comment you have outed your bias, so there is no way you would listen to the explanation.

You cannot compare the difference in context complexities between two incidents so radically different, but you already know that and are just looking for a place to throw a comment bomb.

BECAUSE//// even handcuffed, a person can still fight, flee, try to steal car, etc. etc. etc.... You must evaluate the situation. IN 99.9 PERCENT, the person was resisting arrest. Any time you resist arrest, the situation will escalate.

Sadly in a few situations the officer makes a wrong decision... usually out of fear or sudden movement by the person, also in bad lighting or other circumstances... In these very few cases where the suspect was NOT trying to resist.. its that video that will help the grand jury decide if the officer committed man slaughter, or has reasonable cause... Sadly either way a life is lost. BUt again... 99.9 percent... RESISTING will escalate!!!!!!

This does not belong on this forum... Dash cams can help in many cases and in Russia, are deemed necessary due to all the drunks.
