Ductless Mini Split systems

Has anyone ever used one of these systems for Heat/AC in your house or garage. I am wanting to use one in my 30 x 30 garage with upstairs storage. Is there a name brand thats better than the other. Warranty seems same on most 2 year parts on everything 7 year on compressor. The man said a 28000btu unit would be all that i would need. To keep it tractor related i dont think this unit will work on my 135 massey ferguson or will it LOL.
Thank you

Mitsubishi seems to be the leading outfit on those- don't know who else is putting them out. What kind of price are you looking at for that size? I'm thinking of the same thing for my shop expansion.

The garage is just a year old .insulated pretty well. The upstairs is a Tin roof i have to insulate that with some waffle board and insulation the man said.

I have a Daikin 3 head system with air to air heat pump (same brand as was in the apt. I was in in Japan in '96). The best thing since shoes. We have an airtight wood stove that gets used daily (from Sept - March). Our Hydro bill dropped from and average of $160 per mo. to about $70 per mo. No problems and the whole thing will have paid for itself in another 2 years. HTH

My BIL sells Mitsubishi. Good and pricy units.

I would only recommend one in a house if you can't run duct work.

Check into the price you might reconsider.

We had a Dakon installed last spring, a single head 24,000 BTU system, kept the house (1300 sq. ft.) cool this summer and seems to do well heating though we use mostly the wood stove for heat. I suggest to do some online research. I was fortunate that our power company had a good rebate going when we bought. Mitsubishi seems to be the hot seller but we chose a different brand. Had three bids for each, the Dakon and Mitsubishi. In the end it was the warrantee for the Dakon was better for us. Very happy with it, works well and quiet

We have two at my church. They are a major pain because the cold air is not distributed well, despite having two ceiling fans running. I constantly have people that are too hot, others too cold, some feeling a draft. Maybe if they had been installed higher the cold air would be better spread out.

I am a trustee at our local Elks Lodge. The building was built in 1864 and has been remodeled at various times. We need more cooling capacity in the kitchen, no way for ductwork to install. We added a Mitsubishi unit which has worked very well for several years. It has a heat pump also for winter use, but that feature is not need much in our application, lots of heat from stoves and fryers in a kitchen. We're happy with it.

I installed a Mitsubishi ductless system in our house a few years ago and we're very happy with it. They are amazingly quiet inside and out. Our unit has heat capability, but we've never used it.

Better make sure the garage is well insulated and sealed against air leaks before you try adding A/C. Pay close attention to the SEER rating of the different brands when you choose your unit.

I have a Fujitsu that does both heat and A/C in my shop. Was right about $3K installed. I have spray foam insulation. Having cooling in the summer was necessary because of the moisture build up.

Actually thats really something i dont understand is the SEER rating but i will do some research to learn more about it. I do know i will have to do some more insulation work upstairs because its a tin roof. I have already got a quote on that. I just have never heard of a mini split system until asking around about something to heat and cool my garage.
Thanks for your input on this

The more i research and ask question i am finding out the Mitsubishi units are pretty much the king of the crop. They are pricey. I didnt really think they would be that much. But as the saying goes you get what you pay for.

I actually did some research on that brand and found it to be like you said the warranty seemed to be a little stronger. I didnt know any of the brands till now. Bob Harvey suggested a Daikin and i think thats the brand you are speaking of .And i think i might be actually pulled toward that.

I am considering that for my shed as well. With my closed foam insulation a DeHumidifier does a great job taking the humidity out but on those hot days, well it is just to uncomfortable. Paul

Those Mitsubishi the more i research are the Cat Daddy of the split systems. Another thing the man said was they wouldn't cost that much to run something about AC/DC technology or something like that. He actually said it wouldn't cost 15 dollars a year to run thats when i kinda called Horse$hit
on that. And started researching and asking y'all for Help

Yes i am reading they have that feature also. Seems to be great little units from what i have been reading. What brand are you considering or do you know yet.

SEER is pretty simple: The higher the number the more efficient (and expensive) the A/C unit is. Window units have abysmally low SEER ratings. Minimum SEER for split units in most of the US is 13; in the southeast it's 14. If you plan on running the unit a lot, go for a higher SEER.

Would not matter what kind of HVAC is installed. There are always complaints of too hot, too cold, too noisy, too drafty, too expensize and too etc.

Who is going to install and warranty units dropped off at your door?

My sister got a bid on a split system installed in Florida, 3 ton $7800,

She had one room that was always too hot. I removed 3/4 of an inch from bottom of door and installed a second thermostat in parallel with the one in living room. She shut off the living room thermostat and now the guest bedroom is perfect. Only cost about $25 for thermostat at Lowes.

What's the difference between a window air and split systems? They both look the same on the inside, just quitter because compressor is located on the ground.

In Florida Sears sells window A/c's with electric heat for way less than $2095.

B&D read again and think about it a little, you are a sharp guy I bet you can get it.

When i researched the unit that was for 2095.00 delivered I also researched like installers and a well known company around here was the only folks to do it. So in saying that i guess they are also the go to for the warranty repairs. I have the site saved on my computer at work. The unit started with a Sen something. I did look at reviews for that unit and it was not that good so i steered away from that one .I figured the 2095 was to good to be true. The best price i can find for one now is around 3500.00. Plus 600.00 for install

Geo i would buy one from your BIL if the price was right. Maybe he could actually tell me the size i would actually need . If you email me his phone number i would love to call and ask.
Thanks again for yalls input and help..

True higher is better but in a group of people there will always some too cold with others too hot at the same temperature
