They just opened up a Wegman's near me in a new shopping center along with a huge Field & Sream/Dicks Sporting Goods.Wife wanted to check it out got some real good deals and its a huge store
seemed bigger than the Costco or the Sam's Club.Anyone else have one of these stores around their area?

Wegman's started in Rochester, NY, and was for many years a local chain only. They've expanded considerably over the last few decades. 30 years ago, I had college roommates from Rochester who would make late-summer trips to Wegman's to stock up on groceries before coming to school, as many of the things they did there (bulk quantities, deeply-discounted store brands, huge-sized stores with wide selections, fresh, local, organic produce, etc. etc.) were quite novel concepts at the time. Now, of course, they're much more wide-spread, and many of the things they do are available at many other places, but if you've never been to one it's still an experience and worth the trip--they still manage to have a unique "flavor" from the more common superstores that helps explain their success in broadening their reach beyond NY.

I live around the Rochester area and Wegman's is I believe the #2 employer in this area. Huge reputation for quality and service and shopping experience. Its someplace everyone that visits wants to see and it seems that every town that has ever heard of them wants a store built.Try out their pumpkin and classic apple pies - also made in Rochester.

TF, by all means go to the Wegmans store, it may be the first time you will say visiting the grocery was an 'experience" but it really will be. On the other hand, no real reason to go to Dicks unless you enjoy paying $25 for a t-shirt, or you have an interest in some off-brand niche hobby like bocci ball or something. They are master merchandisers at Dicks , I don't know how they keep expanding and drawing customers with the prices they charge.

The Field & Stream is the part of the store with the hunting, outdoor and fishing stuff.Pretty good really but a little on the high side although they do have pretty decent prices on
deer stands I've gotten a couple at the end of the season on sale at their other store here.

ya, pretty good company. worked with them a bit when i was with Chore-Time working on their own egg house ventilation system. not sure if they are still field to store still or not but we love going to their store. YOu'll find things you can't find anywhere else.

Wegmans was named America's #1 employer several years. They offer their employees college scholarships. Oh, it's a great place to shop. You can pretty much find anything you're looking for.

Being only an hour east of Rochester NY, we've had a Wegmans for years. For many years, we have shopped Tops, where apparently they used milk as a loss leader. We buy four gallons a week. Over the last year or so, Wegmans has decided to take on Tops, so we've been buying there. Nobody can come close to their milk price now.

Wegman's in Geneva has had the lower price on basics such as milk, bread, and ground beef for quite some time. I would recommend that anybody who is curious check Wegman's out. The only complaint I have at the moment would be to get the regular bread back to having a somewhat wheat taste versus the yeast taste it has at present.

We have been to Wegman's at Elmira. Excellent quality and selection. I think Woodsman in Rockford, IL may be larger and has a much larger cheese selection by far.

When I was in NY state, they were a great store. I still remember the banner- "Welcome Back Students! Labatt's Blue on Sale!" Now that's looking out for your customer base!

have not been to Wegman's since I moved out west from Webster NY in 1988 but I do remember it was a great store had everything I needed
